Is there a job in consulting that focuses on the rollout of projects, ensuring the work is performed adequately (but not actually doing the work) and is receiving what they were promised, maintaining and growing client relationships to pave way for winning more work? What job title is that?

Program or project manager, assuming there's a separate delivery lead. If you can get onto a large enough program that has this, you can define your own scope since delivery lead will be able to oversee.

That’s called management, chief

In ZS this is called the Solution delivery track

Thanks all - very helpful. Is a role like this considered less prestigious/front office because it’s not a delivery role?

Very helpful points - thanks to you both.

It sounds like you don’t actually want to be a consultant. Checking that projects are delivered on time and that the client is happy is a side of desk activity for all managers and above. I spend my time delivering work, checking that the work my team is doing is of the right standard, checking the client is happy, finding out what problems they have which we can fix in the future, helping them work on their strategy and future plans.

All of my seniors do the same. We would all get fired if we didn’t. There is no additional (non-partner or MD) job where someone with no understanding of the project swans in, lectures us on our work, and then takes the client out to lunch. Only partners and MDs get to do that.

Hey guys, do you have a knack for planning stuff. You may have a hidden gift for Project/Program Management. The skill sets needed are similar to planning a move or a vacation. Those include pre-planning activities, budgeting, collaboration, negotiating etc.

Has anyone here ever pursued a relationship with a client? 😱 how did you go about it? Did you leave the account before making any moves?

Anyone out there sell in a Voice project to a client yet? Is your agency trying to sell a Voice project to a client?

Might have just made myself look bad, but I’d have done the same thing over again. Started a new client (finally thank God) and was supposed to be the only 1 staffing it. Found out an overseas person was allocated. Reached out to manager/partner - they didn’t realize and both made bad comments about them. So I asked… if I had to work with them. They planned for me to do the engagement alone anyway, and why would I want them if they clearly don’t either?

What happens if big ideas come up against sometimes harsh operational and engineering realities? Did you learn any lessons in this regard when attempting to bring the ambitious project Marcel to life?

When saving docs to the system, I notice some firms consistently put the project name first and title second, e.g., Project Mountain - Escrow Agreement. I don’t know why, but it bothers me not having the document title first. If for instance my browser/window is too small, all you see is Project Mountain—not Escrow Agreement. Also feel like it’s easier if you were to sort alphabetically. So unimportant, but is there a reason for project name first?

Hey fishes,
Will my company release me early if I'm on bench before last working day. Few weeks early if I'm released from the project or do I have to be on bench and serve notice entirely

Looking to switch from Booz Allen to EYP and wondering if the extra 10-20k per year will be worth it. I have great work life balance now that I’m on one project and working from home. Worried about going back to the rat race having to work extra hours on many different projects because “it looks good to be busy”. Seems like so many people are miserable in their role (in consulting in general). What are your thoughts?

Guys
Any idea like how much time is normal for project to be assigned for new hire in deloitte. Is it something to worry if not within the 15 days of joining. Views pls.

I joined Wipro 3 months back but I am not involved in any project. I have given the multiple interviews for project but sometimes they take the multiple rounds but at last they deallocate me from that project.

I am not able to understand, what are the reasons for deallocation?
It seems to be tough to sit free specially for experienced candidates.

Hi Sharks,

I have got offer from nagarro. This is a general hire not project specific. But from various sources I am finding that getting projects is hard and have to give several rounds of interviews again. So my concern is this true and how about not getting project. Will the company force me to leave?
