Check out the app Overdrive! All you need is a library card and you can borrow ebooks/audiobooks for free like at a physical library
And re audible: you pay a subscription that grants you 1 book a month, so its slightly different than your understanding. You get to keep the books regardless of if you continue your subscription.
Mck1’s idea is cool, but I would actually try audible fo a couple of months for this reason: they always have some signup special running where you get a couple books for free. They also have some silly retention processes in place. The first time you quit, they will drop your subscription price to half for 3 months. The second time they do something else equally silly. If you play your cards right you can get like 8 books out of them over the course of 4 months for about $30.
Playster is $15/month and unlimited streaming, but you don’t own the books like with audible
Kindle unlimited is 9.99/month and gives you tons of books & audiobooks on any device
Audible is great - I recommend it. I pay $20 a month, but can download 2 books a month. Often those books cost >$20 each, making the subscription cost worthwhile.
Wow will check it out, thank you!
Another one is Libravox. It's free audio books for books past their copyright period, like the John Carter series.
Good stuff, really appreciate it. Going to feed on these audiobooks for knowledge!!
