Is there a path for a 45yr old male to move into Machine learning space at this stage of life? I am good at learning, understand data modeling quite well. If you have done it, can you please share your approach in making this change and how are you doing it after the switch.

yes! i have moved into analytics at 42

like

Yes. It’s a situation where you just do it. At any age, passion for a topic out weighs other factors

like

Seen it done older, age isn't an issue. What will get folks with experience at any age though is

- stubbornness
- impatience for new workflows/tech
- sometimes, even fear (moving to scaled solutions comes with scaled mistakes)

Keep open minded, patient, and peppy. For a while anyway, you're setting out to learn, not necessarily perform.

uplifting

Thank you for your perspective. Chin up :)

It's not enough to be good at learning, you also have to be a machine.

like

LOL !! Which kind?

What do you know already about ML? Are you proficient in it at all?

There is no age limit, you can definitely learn, a great mentor will be invaluable

This is the future. If you want to have fun, do it!

Feeling so lost. One day it hit me hard that I don’t think the career path I’ve been in is right for me. It’s been gnawing at me ever since. Looking for a change, but don’t want to leave my company just for the sake of leaving, or just better pay. I want to know that my next move is a step that is going to take me places.

I feel utterly passionless which doesn’t help. And anything that sounds remotely interesting isn’t something I feel I can monetize.

Am I alone in this? Any advice?

Within a year of making Manager, but I want to move to M&A. Should I stick out another year or move now.

I just gain my bachelors in Mechanical engineering and I’m currently working as an estimator for a mechanical contractor. And I’m looking to do more within my field. Is it necessary for me to get the PE; Sigma six certification; PMP certification etc. Or can I just teach myself skills like coding and solid works and just gain experience.

2.5 yrs into career, LTM with T2 M&A practice with 10-15 DDs under my belt.

To break into PE:
1) Continue recruiting for A1 roles from DD heavy T2 shop
2) Take lateral offer from BCG PIPE (would be 3rd consulting role in 2.5 yrs) to get more exposure

Thoughts from PE guys/girls?
