Oh calm down, CD1
Unpaid internships are still a thing?
Internships are slightly different, but what’s taking your time away? Are you having to work elsewhere to pay bills while doing this undesirable, unpaid internship as well? If so, frame it up as an “I thought I could take this on while still working on the side to make ends meet, but it’s quickly becoming clear that this is not the case and unfortunately I can’t juggle both at the same time. I’d love to leave the door open for the future, but at the moment I’m doing a disservice to myself and to you (the company) by being stretched too thin.”
Not without burning a bridge. If it’s for an opportunity to good to pass up, tell them, apologize, and try to help them find a replacement. Eventually they will understand. If its because they r horrible, u don’t have to worry as much about burning bridges. But if it’s just because u found a marginally better paying opportunity, that’s breach of contract, which is both unethical and illegal. Good way to make a bad name.
It's for a 3mo non paying internship and our contract does state either party can terminate at any time in writing, I'm more concerned about just doing so politely
It’s your reputation. Next time think more before committing to a contract. You either stick with it or you don’t- and people will know you for that.
CD1 coming in hard! OP you're fine. They should've offered to pay anyways. We've all taken on too much. It comes from a good place not a bad one most times.
Life lesson learned
Thanks that helps! This was an opportunity that was not related to my field so it was mutually agreed that unpaid seemed fitting
