I was laid off during Deloitte‘s mass layoff in July of last year. I have worked as an independent contractor since and projects haven’t been consistent at the client I’m working for. I’m looking to get back into a big firm and was seeing if anyone would be able to refer me or help get my foot in the door. I was a business analyst for 1.5 years at Deloitte and have several years of additional experience which I’d be more than happy to share.

I have asked for salary ranges before setting up a call, saying I don't want to "waste anyone's time" if there is a big mismatch. Sometimes they'll give a range, other times they'll ask me for mine and let me know if it's within range. I have a pretty clear number in mind so I don't mind sharing mine (obviously anchor high if you're throwing out the first number).
Recruiters are given a range for a role and are meant to recruit within that range. Some recruiters are incentivized to get you to lowball on your salary, as they get to keep the difference that you left on the table. Stay away from these recruiters - you can usually tell because they’ll have some bogus criteria about not being able to discuss the role till you share your salary upfront but that’s almost always untrue. If this is the case, there are usually other recruiters who can work with you to get you the same role / you can find and apply to the role directly. If you must disclose your salary, try to disclose the range you’re lookingTGIF vs sharing actual base.
They also like to take the lower end if that range when you throw out a range so add some buffer there and have the lower end be the salary you want. Or say you’re looking for something competitive to X role in a <insert type of company> in the <city> area.
