Is there a way to properly rescind accepting an offer? I had a major circumstance change over the past 72 hours and cannot picture also trying to make a career move. Still in conflicts at this point but am going on bereavement leave and really don’t want to come back to work and also have to switch jobs. I just have no interest.

I’m very sorry to hear this. I would call the main attorney that recruited you to explain why (keep the bridge open). I presume they will be understanding. Then ask them what formal protocol to follow.

I’m so sorry for your loss.

Usually reneging on an offer is bad form but it could be justified in this case. Just give them a call instead of sending an email and explain the circumstances. Either way - I know this is a terrible situation and you’re going through a lot. It will take some time to heal but you will come back just the same, if not stronger. Seek all the help you can and you’ll get through this.

Thank you very much. Yeah I don’t want to do it but I’m hoping given the circumstances they’re understanding. The timing would mean I get back and have to adapt to a new job which I just don’t think I can handle. Also thank you very much for the kind words. I really appreciate it.

They may be willing to delay the start date. It’s the human thing to do. Have you considered how long you might need to be ready?

I want to start seeing a therapist because of COVID/work/life in general stress, but most therapists around my area are only available during “normal” business hours. What would be the best way to carve out this time, since I don’t really want to tell me leads exactly what I am doing, but also need to take care of my mental health.

Deloitte Moms, I remember seeing in some other bowl that Deloitte gives 200 dollars gift card or vantage points for new moms. I am having trouble finding the information in DeloitteNet or TOD. Are we still getting it or was it a past promotion kind of thing? Appreciate any guidance on this.

silly question: now we're heading into a recession, anyone has any ideas which functions would get laid off first: planning, analytics, dig or data operations?

What are your thoughts on exiting to a Manager role at Accenture Strategy vs. DigitalBCG “project lead”? I eventually want to exit to a FAANG and do something around Business/Product Strategy or Product Management like most consultants 😂. I would say Business Strategy is probably more realistic with my work experience. I more than 5 years of experience and do not have an Ivy League MBA. Thanks in advance!

In the office today, NY biglaw factory. Somewhere, echoing down the halls of my floor, is someone hacking away with a terrible cough for the last hour. Sigh….almost two years of a pandemic and we apparently still haven’t learned the simplest lesson to stay home when sick….this is why biglaw can’t have nice things!

My peer compiles reports and will send me emails while cc’ing client management—which is fine but she gives me a deadline for the same day and a deadline that she established herself (the report is for a meeting sometime next week). WTF!!!!

Had a lateral “screener” interview for an AmLaw 100 firm in May with 2 partners and was ghosted (but never given a formal rejection). I received a call two weeks ago asking me to interview, with HR stating that they were looking to make additions & wouldn’t string someone along. I had my callback with about 5 people and am now being asked to meet with further people. Is that normal?

Help me choose between these offers: €105k TC corp strat SM at a DAX company in Germany in a LCOL but nice city. €7.5k signing bonus + relocation. Culture is pretty good, pay should go up to €130k+ within a couple of years. $200k base M at B4 in Chicago. The culture is the culture. $25k signing bonus. Long-term, I'd rather live in Germany, but I have a personal network in Chicago from business school so either is fine in the short-term. Thanks for your input.
