Loss of value> feeling reflecting the loss as sadness or depression if irrevocable loss > corresponding reduction in feel good hormones/neuro chemicals > physiological systems mirror psychological system, and changes in heart rate/breath/appetite/digestion/energy follow.

It’s a real thing. People die of this. Broken heart syndrome is a temporary heart condition that's often brought on by stressful situations and extreme emotions. The condition can also be triggered by a serious physical illness or surgery. It may also be called stress cardiomyopathy, takotsubo cardiomyopathy or apical ballooning syndrome.

Same brain areas triggered.

Maybe, because heartbroken people can't process their emotions/feelings rationally. It's hard to deal with loss of the relationship and a partner while we are blaming ourselves for the situation. We also tend to search for closure and we are in rumination of what could have been. Our self confidence and self worth is down the drain making self care extremely difficult. When I was going through a heartbreak, I was able to eat only one meal in a day and I developed eating disorders. My vitamin levels became extremely low - causing joint pain and fatigue.

I’m the one whose ex won’t pay for college - and I have an update. My ex texted me today that he and his wife are buying our son a car (!!) for Christmas. On the one hand, it’s one less expense for me. On the other hand, my ex won’t pay for college and he owes me at least $10K for previous medical expenses, but he can find money for a car - which is a “fun” expense that will get him brownie points with our son. Whatever - my son benefits, but talk about a “Disneyland Dad.” Ugh.

I’m a new lateral 3rd year in a niche practice area and the partner I do most of my work for with called me today saying he has a medical emergency and can’t look at emails today/tomorrow. We have several deliverables due this week and I’m the only associate on his projects. HELP

I can’t function. I don’t have energy to do the smallest things. All I want to do is sleep. I don’t have to feel pain or deal with life when I sleep. I left my job because of this. I have a history of clinical depression and this is the worst episode I’ve ever experienced. I made an appointment with a therapist and to get on meds. Do I qualify for state disability even though I quit my job?

So this might be a better place to post this and ask this question: Uncle D has announced explicitly that most people won’t get a pay raise & bonus this year except for those promoted and high performers. Amid this crisis, are companies including other big 3, MBB, FAANG, boutique consulting firms still giving high raises and issue stocks? Can you share the impact from your firm?
