Is there an income limit for contributing to a Mega backdoor Roth? I came across irs section 401(a)(17) and am confused about the 290k annual comp rule when it comes to the 58k limit for section 415c. Also does anyone know what happens if you exceed section 415c and what the process is to correct it?

The 58K applies to the sum of your 401k contributions (Roth and traditional), plus the employer match, plus the after-tax 401k contributions (aka the Megabackdoor).

If you went over with after tax contributions you need to ask for a refund of the excess before the end of the tax year

Thanks. Do employer retirement plan contributions outside of 401k counts toward the 415 limit as well? PwC has a retirement account for employees and contributes a percentage of your salary into that account annually.

Where does that contribution go? If it goes to your 401k, then it counts. BCG has that too and the contribution gets deposited in our 401k

It’s a separate wealth builder account which is distinct from the 401k. Although it’s managed the same way as the 401k and I can make the same fund investments.

Chances are it’s a 401k account just called differently. BCG calls it Profit Sharing and Retirement Fund

Are HSA contributions counted toward the 58k limit? I contribute pretax dollars and also get a small match from pwc.

They are not

The biggest opportunity for FP&A is with linking business operations to financial outcomes, it's not easy if business has multiple revenue sources.
But if FP&A succeeds in making that connection, great things happen.

Any thoughts 💭 Fishes 🐠🐟. ?

I’ve been reading more and more in other financial forums about people refinancing into interest-only mortgages as a means of maximizing cash available for investment. Help me understand the argument for doing this? I’m starting to see it could make a lot of sense for people who 1) have a ton of equity and aren’t worried about the housing market flinching, 2) probably won’t keep their house forever, and 3) already have a high net worth. Thoughts?

Do people tend to age out of wanting to FIRE?

In your 20s-30s, you don’t know much, you’re told what to do, you have few financial resources so you are tied to your job. Under these circumstances it makes perfect sense why you would want to FIRE asap.

But eventually you advance up the ladder, you are now the boss and your people do all the grunt work. You also have built up expertise which makes the job easier. And you are making the best money of your life. FIRE is no longer so pressing.
