Thanks in advance 😊
Hi fishes! My spouse is planning to go to India but we would need to get her visa stamped before coming back. I see that getting appointment is such a huge problem right now. Can we get her visa stamped from a different country? In this case, we were considering Qatar, she grew up there and has her brother there. For what it’s worth she qualifies for Dropbox in India. How do I find out if Qatar works in our case?Deloitte
Oh, the beauty of the solo Sunday brunch ☺️🍳

As long as you’re willing to take the pay of a kid right out of college. At least half of ageism is about salaries
I took my first full-time ad agency job at 43. Dreams do come true!
So you’re the 40 year old Ad Virgin?
Yes, but that book needs to be good. Also depends on what shops you want to break into. There’s options out there.
Start making friends in the ad world - most people get hired by their friends #fact
How old was Chandler when he entered? 35?
Dude I started as a 31 year old intern. You bring an immense amount of insight and experience to the table. The pay will be equal to your title BUT if your book is good and you do good work, you’ll scale quickly

Started my second career in advertising and, at the time, was the oldest student in my ad school. First year’s salary was less than half of what I made in my first career. Last year’s salary was more than twice as much as I made in my first career. Go for it!
I’m 32 and just starting. I have more to pull from plus the things I thought were cool when I was younger is vintage cool now. Which is pretty cool for ideating.
Ageism is a thing but it’s not everywhere and it’s more prevalent generally in creative departments. All the advice above is good. Curious though - given how badly agencies are struggling, why does this feel like the right move for you?
I was always client side. Got my first agency gig at 41.
I was a 34 year old intern with a lot of related experience. It helped me get hired and promoted quickly.
Honestly: it’s a thing. All the good feels above aside. It’s a thing
I’m in my 30’s and am trying to work my way over to copywriting, myself. The thing I keep hearing over and over again is that the experience older hires bring helps them move up in ranks quicker, we just need great books (and connections) to get us through the door. So if you ever want to commiserate or collaborate, feel free to hit me up: unabashedpencilfish@gmail.com
I feel this is an issue for me so I fudge my college graduation dates to make me look younger on my resume. That and hair dye
Disagree that ageism is more prevalent in creative departments. Not been my experience, and if anything it’s reverse ageism I’m guilty of. Younger creatives have a slight disadvantage compared to older candidates, tbqh.
I was a late bloomer in advertising. I landed my first job at 34. Ageism is a thing, but there will always be someone out there willing to give you a chance. Do it!
It’s all about who you know. I know tons of ppl without strong books but Bc their boy hired them they got a sweet job. One guy was a failed screenwriter and his bro hired him and within a year he was a CD. Took me 10+ years to get the same thing and it does have to do with the fact I’m a WOC. If you’re a white man with hair you’re set. Use your connections.
I came into the agency world from client side at age 40, but not as a creative, to manage ad data platform. Was shocked to realize it’s everyone’s dream to go the opposite direction to client side. The term “client side” cracks me up.
We have a jr writer on my team who is 38. As someone who’s 22, I actually think some of my CDs favorite her in a way because she’s older and more “mature”. She’s a great writer and recently finished ad school and gets put on a lot of great projects.
