Is there any downside or risk to using up all my vacation days that are allotted to a FT employee (even though they are accrued throughout year) THEN switching to part time? (Where part time employees get proportionally fewer vacation days)

Lawyer here with a concentration in international tax, in and outside of the US. I'm ready to make the jump out of this pure billable hour ridiculousness.
I've always had broader interests/side projects/etc (e.g. helping build financial models, make pitch books, do BD trips on my vacation time). My main trade is handling legal/finance in the cross-border context. Any recommendations on where I can market myself best in the startup world?

I’m a binge worker. Typically push for 2-3 months/6-7 days a week. Very long hours. Then take a 14-21 day vacation to travel and unplug. Very fortunate to have a supportive practice and firm. Just works for me and how I’m wired. This year has been brutal. I’m not built to turn off for a day or two, or after 5:00 pm. I put up a legit 3000 hour year in 2020 just because I had the work there in front of me. Tried smaller distanced trips, staycations, etc. How are other bingers coping?

I got a DUI in back in 2006. I have a family vacation planned for Canada next week and realized that they could potentially deny me entry for the past violation. I guess there is a form I could fill out but it wouldn’t be ready before my trip and besides I can’t find any documentation about it. Anyone have any experience with this? FWIW I was born in Canada so they will see that on my passport. I figure the odds are good since I’m only going to be there 3 days and it was 16 years ago.

I’ve accepted an offer to start at a new consultancy Oct. 1

Current employer’s contract requires 1mo notice. I’d have liked to give my notice today (Aug 1) so that I can potentially take a month off between jobs, but my direct manager is on vacation until next week and I’ve only accepted the offer letter, not signed the employment contract.

Bad move to give advanced notice?

I’m pretty central to much of my team & department’s operations, so I want to ensure ample time for handover of tasks.

Got an offer for an in-house role and they only have 10 days off for vacation with a few days additional for sick time off.

I dont know if this is an LGBT problem or something everyone faces, but I always bring my partner of 12 years to firm holiday parties or anything that allows plus-1 and has free alcohol and shrimps. He knows my coworkers as I've been with same firm for 10 years. Last night was one of these nights. He makes small talk with my coworkers and then later my coworkers all say to me essentially the same thing "I like [partner's name], he's a good guy." I have no idea what to say to that.

Do any carriers in Europe pay salaries equal to their American counterparts? I’ve found that the salary for my role is pretty much halved across the Atlantic.

I know that my company, Chubb, does and from time to time they have rotational programs where not only do you maintain your US salary but you also get COLA and a housing allowance, unfortunately nothing right now nor permanent.

Another option would be insurance companies that pay your American salary while working abroad.

I got a verbal offer from KPMG US during the first week of November 2022. It has been more than one month since the verbal confirmation and I have yet not received the offer letter. I checked with my recruiter and she told me that there is some pending approvals from the leadership team that is taking up time.
