How do you handle being asked how much you currently make during a phone screen?

I live in a state that is illegal to ask this. I was just in a call with a recruiter that was hired to assist a firm in hiring for a position that goes up to 90k. She asked me what I'm currently making and instead i replied with what i am looking for as a range. Told her 80k-90k. She then repeated her question (what im i currently earning) and i was shocked so i made up a number and she said.. continue

My husband and I have 1 car - around $6K left on a 0% APR loan. I have worked from home the last 2 years while he goes to teach in person, and the lack of freedom is getting to me. I have an offer from another company which is roughly $24k more than what I am currently making. Would it be worth sacrificing my remote position and switch to a hybrid role? It will also require relocation but I already have a house and am hesitant to sell and buy another one with these current mortgage rates. I was able to refinance a year ago for around 3%

Started at a new firm a couple weeks ago. No one is going into the office but I’ve started to. Brought a plant from home to make my office nice. Office manager came by and told me no plants allowed and I have to take it back. Also, nothing allowed on the walls. There’s free LaCroix in the fridge though, so there’s that?

Always had this stupid idea but will throw it out here for more perspective!
I know labor unions are not allowed but if we collectively raise our voice and ask for better compensations and/or work life balance will it really make a difference. I know talent surveys happen but find it falling on deaf ears.
Deep down I really want Deloitte to come out of this mess they have created starting 2020.
I want to feel the pride of having this name associated with my career again…
