I actually find having email on my work phone is very freeing. I don't have notifications on, so I check it when I need to, I have two phones so if I don't want to bring it with me I don't, and I also don't feel tethered to my computer because I can be just as effective on my phone and if I know I'll be needed but have life to live i just bring it with me.

This. If I have my phone when I go for a run I can respond to ping as if I’m online.... when I’m not lol

I have email on my phone but not Teams and I do not have notifications turned on. I just have it so I can check my work email when I’m away from my computer if I want.

I've always had work email on my phone, 9 years of experience in accounting from staff/senior auditor to industry accounting manager. The number of times I've gotten an email outside of business hours that warranted a response before 8am the next day, I can count on two hands, but I sometimes get emails that would make stuff move faster on the client side I would answer even though it wasn't urgent. Only time in audit an "urgent" email came up is when we were super close to a deadline, and my work was "done", but some of the work hadn't been reviewed. If you have work email on your phone, it is healthy to have hours where the notifications are off. Communicate. If your direct supervisors are aware that something is urgent they should call you. Be online when you're supposed to be working. I don't have a recommendation and I haven't really answered your question. But I think in general we need to all start treating email like a form of communication that is non-urgent, and that we should use it less.

I wouldn’t unless the company paid for my work phone. I do not need business/personal to be mixed. & I only say this because I know of someone who was involved in a lawsuit and their whole phone was used for discovery. Not sure I’d want some of my personal stuff to be gone through!

I had email on my phone in my A3 year, thinking it would help with my promotion. After promotion, I uninstalled and never looked back.

Same 🤣

I’m surprised by this thread. I check my work email like 24/7. Interesting.

I really can't stand the overuse of the word "toxic" these days. Really? It's toxic that someone wants to use their personal mobile device for business communication? Really?

Turn notifications off. You never know when it will be useful to you to have email or chat on your phone, but notifications off makes it easy to ignore. Then tell people that email on your phone is for your convenience, not theirs.

I have them on my phone. Easy to respond to urgent emails and makes the morning “mail sort” faster. I can ignore non urgent ones, or send a quick reply hand it’s taken care of. Also helpful when I take a long lunch or have a dr. Appointment or taking a day off but need to keep an eye on any emergencies. It’s really for my benefit not the Firm’s benefit.

Teams and outlook are essential now with wfh. I’m at a new firm and am not 100% busy so I study sometimes on my personal computer. I use that to stay connected.

Working in my office used to be my primary source of work outfit inspiration but since working remote staying aware of what styles are in is nearly impossible. I live in a smallish town, so going out doesn't help fill in that awareness gap. Are there any online communities or slack communities where people talk about and share style inspiration I can wear at work? I'm 28, work in tech, and my office is a start up, so attire is casual. I'd also be interested in brands people follow.
