Exactly that. Does going back to your original employer hurt your chances of breaking into Faang or mbb from a top mba program
Gotcha d1. I guess the only concern I had was that I’d miss out on is the career services and recruiting events that take place to specifically hire the mba class of that year from certain programs
Yup, that would be a big miss. Still possible to get FAANG, but harder.
Harder to lateral into mbb vs recruiting straight from mba
Probably. What’s your question?
Going back to your original employer does not hurt at all. In fact, it seems to imply that you were sponsored as a high performer for MBA on your company’s dime. Stay until your retention date and then be ready to move on.
Most career services are available to alumni as well. You'd miss MBA recruitment, but realistically all the average HR person looks for is MBA + (insert frou frou school here) and then bins the rest.
Hmm maybe it’d be better to get sponsored and then if you can get a Faang offer after the mba then just take it and then pay out of pocket but if you can’t get an offer just go back to your premba employer and then get it paid for. Thoughts?
Me! You don’t have to be sponsored by your employer, even if you wish to go back to them. That’s what I did bc I wanted to keep options open. Ended up going back for 2 more years of consulting, and just jumped ship recently to tech
Sc1 few questions 1. Where did you get your mba 2. Did you need a referral to tech 3. What tech company? Thanks
Went to London Business School, now working at Dropbox. Needed a referral - I had a friend working here who I worked with during my MBA internship
Hmm interesting I guess that changes my perspective then. Because I feel like a lot of us are capable of getting gigs at those bigger tech companies especially if we get a referral so is it really the Mba that’s providing us value here. Mbb On the other hand doesn’t seem like it’s as easy unless you get a top 10 Mba
Almost everyone I know in our strategy group has an MBA...and most are from MBB background. Other groups are a bit more diverse...engineering background for product managers, etc. It depends on what you want to do!
Bcg1 that’s what I was thinking
