For SC1 - I honestly think if you were in the same situation as any of those coming from Mexico or Central America you would ev just walked up to the border.
I agree that laws should be held, but in the same time where is our humanity.
I come from a country that is torn by war and sanctions. I was one of the fortunate ones where my dad’s degree allowed him to apply for merit based immigration to Canada. Not everyone has that kind of capability, so does that mean they shouldn’t do whatever it takes to better their lives and take care of their family?
You realize not everyone wants to uproot their family and leave their home land, but circumstances make them so the extreme to protect their family. So many people drowned in the sea trying to reach EU running away from a war and the same is happening in El Salvador and other central Mexican countries.
DD1 - you are comparing apples and oranges. The people coming here through the south border wouldn’t be in the same bucket or situation as you.
Educate your self as to why they are doing it that way then go around and pass your judgment.
You applied your situation to someone who is fleeing a what is being categorized as a war zone
I just hope everyone votes in the 2018 Midterm and 2020 presidential elections to kick this orange idiot out stop this madness. Everytime some of this bullshit happens I get more and more pissed at people who didn't mind Trump being President because Hilary was so "untrustworthy". The Trump presidency is worse than I thought it would be.
well..a lot of us in working visa of course
Or you mean the children being ripped from nursing mothers? I mean it sucks to lose our most talented coworkers due to H1B insanity but anyone who has a child should imagine having them secretly stolen and either caged like an animal or adopted by some random American citizens.
Pwc1, as a legal immigrant, I get pissed off by people crossing borders. At the same time, I wonder what goes on in their minds to risk all of that.
It's pure dicotomy.
Don't forget, even for legal immigrants, they are looking for reasons to revoke green cards and even citizenship. Don't think you are safe from this insanity just because you are legal.
Refer Desi bowl to get answers buddy. It is filled with this visa crap.
SC1 - legal immigrant too. A part of me gets pissed off like you but another part of me feels sorry for those people. They risk all of that to cross the border probably because the environment is absolutely horrendous back home. At least I don’t need to worry about safety, food, or shelter if I’m forced to go back to my home country so I do sympathize..
Mexicans didn’t come to the US, the US came to Mexico in 1848 and claimed most of the Southwest and California
As a legal immigrant, I think the "legal" folks pissed off about "illegal" immigration are simply demonstrating a form of classism.
That kind of boils down to the idea that only those with the financial means to escape a shitty situation deserve acceptance.
@SC1 legal immigrant as well and feel similar about illegal immigration
As a green card holder I feel unwelcome. Firm has sent out multiple emails trying to address the issue considering some top talent is afraid of taking international projects for fear of re entry.
Me. I could be kicked out of my home, the anxiety is real y'all. While obviously no one here is a political expert (consulting bowl am I right?) I'm reminded that our firms believe in our people and I am confident I have support.
@D2 and VP1 not pissed, just don’t agree with illegal immigration since it’s against the law
Also I came a refugee to the US legally with help from various refugee organizations where my family only had 200 dollars for three people. Don’t make assumptions.
DD1 - you were lucky to get those orgs to help you make your case, hire you a lawyer and pay your ticket to come over.
Not everyone who is coming from war torn countries has that.
Laws aren’t always the only binding factor in morality. Consensual homosexual relations was illegal. So because it’s illegal is a rather irrelevant argument if you believe it’s moral. let he who hath broken no laws cast the first stone.
Op please elaborate more
OP - to answer your question, yes. I have very good friends at Deloitte who have to leave this country because of the existing political landscape and immigration changes. It sucks that people who came in legally and paying high taxes are being punished too.
All those legal immigrants posts above getting pissed about illegal immigrants, why?
For me, it is about following the law.
@D2 I totally understand that, but that should not justify doing something illegal.
