Is there any way to safeguard managed assets (401k, etc) against a potential recession or capitalize on downward turns?

Yes, by timing the market perfectly.

Buy put options or countercyclical stocks in your personal investment portfolio?

like

Safeguard = use bonds to provide stability in a volatile market I.e. adjust allocation
Capitalize on downward trend = purchase stocks even more aggressively at “discounted rates"

Obviously the two are conflicting approaches. Choose which one better fits your risk appetite

To capitalize, you can also purchase inverse ETFs like SQQQ or SPXU but know that they decay over time

You can diversify in your 401k. An easy, albeit imperfect, way to do this is by putting the majority of your 401k balance into a target date fund.

You can also use a traditional investment account via a broker like ETrade or TDAmeritrade buy the inverse ETFs like SQQQ. You can also buy ETFs that give you exposure to alternative assets like GLD and the Vix, I think VXXN is a possibility.

Is there anyone who’s experienced helping their parents get health insurance? Specifically, they aren’t eligible for Medicare, make too little to qualify for ACA subsidies, and cannot get employer-provided insurance. Only option is to pay standard premiums - and if that ultimately is the case, fine. Not trying to find loopholes, but given their low-income, would be nice to know if there are programs I’m not finding in my rsch.
