Is there ever a situation where a form 8960 is required even if the client is under the income threshold? Friend/client of mine got a PWC preso saying 8960 is required due to some 965 tax but. Cont..

Only guidance I have seen:
Who Must File: Attach Form 8960 to your return if your modified adjusted gross income (MAGI) is greater than the applicable threshold amount.

But when I put info into tax return software the 8960 doesn’t generate. Assuming it’s because they aren’t above the threshold but keep questioning due to PWC preso the shareholder received saying that they are required to file 8960 with the return and 965 info

Thanks PWC! So I guess I just have to manually have the tax return software add form 8960 even though it’s not generating?

BDO - haha sorry. Preso = Presentation 😂

EY - yeah I increased the MAGI above the threshold for fun and it generated it. Gotta figure out how to manually force the form in the software.

Not sure what software you are using but my guess is there is a “force print” button somewhere at the very top of your input screen.

EY2: I use Drake bc I don’t do too much Tax work. But I’m sure there is a force print button too. Just have to find it! Will call Drake if I can’t find it

This question might anger some, but not meant to be provoking. Does anyone else feel that half the jobs in tech (scrum master, project manager, product manager, etc.) are more hindering than helpful? I feel like productivity would sky rocket if we didn’t have 10+ hours a week added of admin work/agile ceremonies/status meetings, and you just let developers and analysts do their job. Why are we spending hours learning how to estimate story points (for example) rather than improving production?

What're your thoughts on GTA Real Estate for the next 1-2 years?

My 2 cents: Prices are already down in most pockets of the GTA since the February highs, number of units on the market has increased significantly and most units are sitting several weeks unsold.

Given that rate hikes have only just started, and will continue to come, I think there are some interesting times ahead of us in the near future..

GTM moving back into consulting is a good idea in theory, but it’s like a train wreck happening in slow motion.

Sure feels like they are pushing to stand up a traditional CRE network for product sales inside of consulting … that won’t work in a service business. Some of us have seen this movie before - different theatre.

Watch how this plays out over next 6 months.

How familiar are you with the cases of attorneys you don’t work under? Our firm is a small law firm and organized so that every partner has a secretary or paralegal (3 partners). I’m a little confused on the electric vehicle tax credit. I’m filling out Form 8936 and it appears to have a maximum credit of $2,500. However, I am reading that the maximum credit is $7,500 if your tax/AGI meet the criteria which it does in this case. What am I missing here? The form clearly shows $2,500 so where is the $7,500 coming from? Also, is there carryover to next year’s return if all of it isn’t use? Looks like maybe form 8834 if I’m reading it correctly?

Thank you.
