Is there somewhere I could find an industry mentor to help me get my career started?

YOu could try reaching out to people on LinkedIn. Idk if you'll be able to find a full-on mentor but you can at least talk to people in the industry who can point you in the right directon

you can try joining an org for people in your profession or attend local networking events, there's a chance you'll meet someone there who can refer you to a mentor or even do it themselves

You know anyone in your indsutry at the moment? A good starting point would be to meet with them and have a conversation about why you're interested in a mentorship and why you would like them to become your mentor. Odds are they can at least tell you if they know anyone who might be interested in helping you out

Your network, online or otherwise, is your best resource for finding a mentor, if you don't have one yet you should work on growing it

This article does a pretty good job of explaining the process: https://www.indeed.com/career-advice/career-development/how-to-find-a-mentor

There might be a few different ways to find a mentor in your industry. One way could be to reach out to people you know who already work in the industry and ask them if they know anyone who would be willing to mentor you.

Look online for forums or groups where people in your industry share information and advice. LinkedIn surely has many places where you can make connections, so start there. There may also be other industry-specific pages.

Left my first job after just shy of two years because I was bored. Have been at my current job for about half a year and it’s a great resume builder but an absolute horror story (long hours, unreasonable clients, tons of weekend work that’s not worth the pay). If I left in a few months, at the 10 month mark, would that significantly hurt my chances of getting a strong exit opportunity? I can’t imagine staying here for the full year but I don’t want to blow my chances at leaving for a cool job

Should I specialize in Blockchain or AI? I’m a freshman in a CS degree and I can’t decide. My main argument to choose blockchain is the easy entry with little experience and high salary, I plan on growing my skills during the bear market and get a job once the market recovers. Regarding AI, I find this field fascinating but I feel like it requires a lot of experience, degrees and diplomas.

Hi fishes,

This annual appraisal I have got a good % of appraisal increment on my salary but I was not promoted to a senior developer (although I have been mentoring a junior dev in my team and been part of building the project by implementing new technologies and tweaks) and my total YoE is 3.5+ years. What could be the reasons? What should I do now?

Thanks in advance!!

I got a job in-house 6 months after working at a law firm. I really love the work I’m doing (a little bit of everything) but am not getting the mentorship and training I should be getting. Do you think I should try to get a job at a law firm and then try to go back in-house in 2-3 years? Or just try to switch companies to get better mentorship?

Car theft is on rise in my area. I want to put safeguards in my car like gps tracker or anything that's available commercially. I heard phone companies have something that uses their cellphone towers to keep track. Any suggestions on gps trackers or other brand products. I am really worried that due to car shortage and job losses thefts are going to go up. Car dealerships are having wait times of 5-6 months for new cars so any theft would create lot of trouble for our young family.

Have a first year who consistently spends time spinning/documenting things that are clearly immaterial. Have told them to not spend time and just pass on things since we audit to materiality. They don't listen and it ends up becoming inefficient. Sometimes I feel like they don't respect me when I say that but audit simply isn't that deep. How can I be more effective in getting the message across?

It's our own fault that we end up with low salaries. Recruiter, consultancies call and ask for current CTC. And eager candidate just blurts it out. The HR simply puts a 30% markup and releases a statement saying this is Max we can do.
This is the max they can do for your CTC. If someone else comes with higher CTC, their final number will also go up.
Refuse to share current CTC. Tell them to offer you what they can. More people start doing this, only then will things improve.
