Big tech is not the same as tech. You tagged the biggest 5, which are all in a hiring freeze and laying people off, but I get several offers every week from a lot of consulting partners so… it all depends on your objective, it’s never easy to get in a big tech company, it depends on a lot of factors including experience, culture and luck

like

I was thinking big tech has to rely more on vendors to get work done.

layoffs plus this holiday season.. def wait till after the holidays.

Generally after a massive layoff, legally companies are required to freeze hiring sometimes for up to 1 year for those positions they eliminated but either way, yes it’s a difficult time when 20k+ just got laid off in tech.

likesmartfunny

Splitting hairs admittedly, but Amazon does not employ 1.4m people in the types of corporate/tech roles in question

like

Tip #1: read the responses above. Tip #2: wait for the freezes to be lifted.

likefunnyuplifting

Yes considering these companies are in hiring freezes and laying off current employees 😒

Not all are laying off at the same rate. Meta is no surprise since he hedged a fortune on a virtual world that no one wants to live in. Twitter is a 💩 show.

An agency reached out to me regarding a PM contract with meta 🤷🏽‍♀️

like

It’s probably a maternity cover - if you want some meta experience on your CV then it could be worth it, but I wouldn’t have many expectations to get permanent

They're ALWAYS hiring. It's dependent on the role and the team. Just apply. Go for it and see what comes out of it.

If you qualify - apply! By the time your application gets past the portal - and you get a call it will be 2023 anyway . Go for it & good luck !

A lot of big tech seems to be in hiring freezes right now but I’m still getting recruiters reaching out from smaller but still well known companies.

probably the hardest it's ever been at the companies you tagged

Difficult, but not impossible! There are a still thousands of job hiring for!

Hello, I made it past the final interview for a Program Manager role at Silicon Valley Bank. The role reports to a Director. The recruiter said $120k was possible but did not provide a range. This is low for my experience for the role in my opinion. They said I am still being considered so I’m still waiting on the final decision. I just want to be prepared if this is the max for this role. It would be a pay cut for me. Does anyone have an idea of the pay range for this role? Silicon Valley Bank

Recent MSc grad, 5 months in to job as entry level consultant. Currently struggling a bit with settling in role, probably partly due to COVID-19 circumstances.

Got approached by country lead of larger private corp to take part in creation of internal group strategy function. Salary exceeds current comp package, corp has good reputation, and people seem great. Take the offer or no?

Offered exit from a large UK company with a 25% base bump (almost matching the total comp based on expected bonus at the dog year - in 7 months). At the same time, advancing discussions with FAANG with strong buy signals (verbal comp at similar levels). Team at the non-FAANG really want me to join them and I see great development opportunities and interesting projects.
Any advice?
