‘Tis but a scratch!
For anyone using Khan Academy and Canvas I made a free application built on a Google Spreadsheet that reads in Khan Academy CSV files and sends the scores to the Canvas gradebook. Demo video below and link to site. Hope it helps someone! The setup takes a bit but it has made grading Khan exercises so much easier and quicker.

So, just to put things into perspective, I have a couple of friends in med school. Black women at a higher rate than non-black counterparts because of the bias that black women are “loud” or “dramatic” instead of looking at the root cause of the pain. Some people would rather not see a medical professional because they think that they they are not really going to find the root of the issue. For a long time, my father, whose English is not the best but can find his way around would rather skip his appointments and wait for me because no one would take the time to appropriately explain what is happening to him.
Representation in healthcare is important because biases exist.
It probably depends on context but in general it's just a numbers game. White / western societies pioneered modern medicine so naturally more white medical practitioners exist and more advanced medical knowledge exists about white bodies.
That means the med community as a whole knows more about treatments and defaults to that base of knowledge.
I'm asian and 2 years ago, my doctor didn't realize symptoms of lactose intolerance. He heard the symptoms I described and assumed it was a different condition.
Lactose intolerance is common among Asians + people from similar regions. I saw an Asian doctor for a second opinion (didn't specifically pick an Asian doc, was random) and he was quicker on the draw to assume it was lactose intolerance. Got the LI condition checked out and went on my way.
Lotta white doctors out there probably don't default to lactose intolerance since many white people don't have it. Is it racist to ask for a specific race to check you out? Probably, but I don't think it's inappropriate to ask for the same nationality doctor in the slight chance that you'll get a more accurate diagnosis / treatment.

So you're saying it's ok to prefer a same race doctor if you are black or Asian.
What about if you are white?
no, it's a fact

There is a long history of being misbelieved and misdiagnosed which can cause mistrust.

Switch the races around and check the reactions. That’s usually a good gut check on whether something which describes non-whites is racist.
Pretty sure the world would be up in arms if white people only wanted to see white doctors.
Then try applying that to judges, teachers, politicians, lawyers, chefs, Uber drivers, etc and you go down a really ugly road of segregation.
Why not?
No? This is pretty common knowledge.

It makes sense but it's another double standard. White people aren't permitted to say or think things like this even if it's true
Black people are discriminated against in the justice system. Should black people be allowed to request black judges or black public defenders?
You’re assuming whites and blacks have the same experience though. Whites come from a place of power where They are not oppressed based on the color of their skin. That’s the difference
Let me ask it as a hypothetical question, then: If, hypothetically, doctors on average provide better treatment to patients of their own race, regardless of what that race is, is it also ok for white patients to prefer white doctors?
Rising Star
For everyone saying No.
Would it be okay if it were about white people being cared for by white doctors?
What is the difference?

Is it ok for a white person to ask for a default doctor if they are more comfortable that way?
