Is Trump the worst president in US history?

Yes. I didn’t have a position initially because I don’t know much about some of the other candidates from the 19th and early 20th centuries. But there was a solidly-sourced and thought out essay on this, comparing Trump to the other usual suspects, posted a few weeks ago. Unfortunately I can’t find it now, but I left that essay thoroughly convinced.

like

Aww I would have liked to read that.

We should compare Presidents only in the last 50-75 years because we are mostly affected by policies and institutions established during that era. Trump without a doubt is the worst president in the last 50-75 years and we are including Nixon and Bush Jr in that group. Trump is the absolute worst. He had no idea of governance. The government was functioning because of institutions that were founded plus the checks and balances that have been in place before he came. Trump tried to tamper with and tried to dismantle those institutions plus policies and had no regards for checks and balances. The best part that happened was Russian investigation. It kept him distracted otherwise he would have done more damage. High flying white collar political operatives nd hacks were running amok with full immunity because they had his support. Just look at the people he pardoned. That should tell you something. And do not forget that he dropped the ball on Coronavirus. He could have promoted mask wearing but instead went George Costanza way by taking the opposite approach. He gave wrong information. Radicalized the MAGAs. Remote controlled a coup through his enablers. Promoted stochastic white terrorism. Worst of all, he destroyer GOP along the way.

likesmart

Trump gave wrong information? It was Dr. Fauci that told people don’t wear masks, it doesn’t make a difference. Then he came out and said he told a white lie so masks were available to our healthcare workers.

Herbert hoover wasn't a good president. And he was a bad president. But he was not a terrible president.

In our lifetimes? without a shadow of a doubt. Of all time? Still probably right up there. Top 3 and on his day easily the worse of all time.

like

And you base that on what merits? Would I be right by presuming your top 5 worst presidents happen to be Republican?

If the dollar becomes worthless and the world economic system collapsed because of it one day, I would say Richard Nixon is the worst president. But otherwise yes Trump.

like

OW1, business cycles are like 10 years long these days. And in the long run, the economy grows despite recessions. It almost has to if the population increases.

Stupid? Check Uninformed? Check Uninterested in governing? Check Mismanager offer pandemic? Check Mismanager of security, resulting in worst breach of government computers in history? Check Unproductive? check Dishonest? Check Divisive? Check Destroyer of faith in institutions? Check Destroyer of historic alliances? Check Incited an insurrection? Check Yah. I think there’s a good case for worst ever.

"I’m speaking with myself, number one, because I have a very good brain and I’ve said a lot of things... I know what I’m doing and I listen to a lot of people, I talk to a lot of people and at the appropriate time I’ll tell you who the people are. But I speak to a lot of people. My primary consultant is myself, and I have, you know, I have a good instinct for this stuff.” Trump, March 16, 2016. If he said it, it has to be true.

Johnson might have been worse. Racist dictator unable to compromise. Opposed things like the Civil Rights Act of 1866 and Fourteenth Amendment. Committed to obstructing political and civil rights for newly freed slaves. This country would have been on a much different path had they successfully removed him after his impeachment. Instead we got decades of Jim Crow laws.

like

You lost me at racist dictator. Couldn’t tel which you were referencing after that. Re: Jim Crowe, see what’s happening to voting rights in Georgia now. Still can’t tel which you’re talking about.

He might not be the worst president but he’s certainly the worst person to be president

like

If not, who do you think is worse? Buchanan gets mentioned — but usually because he did nothing to stop the Civil War. Not clear to me he could have though.

New question. Is Art Director/Tax Manager the worst ... whatever he or she is?

He almost introduced fascism to a democratic country so I would say definitely one of the worst if not the worst

like

God yes. It’s honestly not remotely close. And we’re still YEARS away from understanding the full depths of his failures. Given his power and role; it’s not a stretch to say he’s the single worst human being to suck oxygen for generations.

He also contracted COVID-19. Don't forget that.

AD, my original answer to the question wasn’t flippant. I honestly cannot think of a single meaningful accomplishment that can fairly be credited to the Trump administration and can think of a lot of errors and failures. From your perspective what do you see as the evidence or reasons that he’s not the worst ever?

like

There isn’t enough space to write about all his transgressions. But 500,000 dead and counting is squarely on his back. He didn’t give a damn.

Not proud of it, but I was hooking up with a co-worker/friend pre-COVID. I left the state when wfh started and we still talk every day, but nothing romantic. He made it clear at the beginning that he didn’t want to date because we’re co-workers. Stung a bit when I went on a dating app this morning and saw his profile. The rational part of me knows we’re only ever going to be buddies and that if he actually wanted me, then he’d make something happen. Looking for advice on how to get over this.

Interesting study.. After vaccination was readily available - more COVID hospitalizations fit the “mild or asymptomatic” (52% from the dataset) compared to 64% before vaccinations were readily available. Median age 71 years old. This study suggests that A. Vaccination has brought down severity and B. People are going to the hospital/ICU when they don’t need to

I feel terrible for seniors/elderly trying to get Covid vaccine appts online. I am splitting my time living between Florida and Illinois and signing up for the vaccine in either state is a nightmare for people who are not very computer savvy. I have been helping seniors who had problems figuring it out. If you have the time, reach out and help others. I have seen immense relief and a weight lifted when people get an appointment. Plus, helping others makes you feel good! 💪

My roommate is denying to pay his share of rent he supposed to pay also which he has been paying till Dec 2020. This is not due to COVID but we had an argument using common places in Jan 21,until then he was paying his share of rent $1100 which he agreed to pay for the master bedroom which is quite large that he is occupying, after the brawl he is saying he can pay only equal share of the rent $1950/2 =$975, he also wants the extra money back that he claims that he extra paid. How do i solve ?

Genuine question as I wanted to know is it strange for someone to want to switch to advisory from tax. Would it be difficult for someone to transition from that position? I understand that they are too completely different work but similar fields. Also wanted to know what’s the day to day basis like for advisory during covid and in general
