I don't understand the issue with this image. He is literally correct from a data perspective.

This issue is caused by the schools, not the person hiring.

Yes, my friend went to the oncologist last week, but learned the doctor had never actually had cancer himself. Friend got rid of that doctor, as he obviously couldn’t relate or understand.

Dont forget any time you have a defined group of people who have cultural differences, you will have different interests. You will never get uniform distribution of demographics because different people have different interests.

We need schools to cultivate an understanding of opportunities and help kids find their passion. But dont force quotas of hiring to put a surface level bandaid on things

I mean, he seems to have poorly phrased it. But anyone who’s actually been part of diversity recruiting efforts knows that it’s hard to create a strong pipeline of high-quality URM talent. We need to be able to call out the problem as it is. Systemic racism has really created divergence in educational / human capital outcomes.

Like seriously. I have met a lot of whites who are unqualified. They just had the right gait and were good to go. Please spare me that talk of high quality. Another term they use these days is culture fit. That’s how they protect the white bubble. Like how’s it so hard just being inclusive?????

I dont assume it's the only choke point. There's many choke points. And each of those choke points leaves a smaller pool.

He’s not wrong. We need to have stronger representation of deserving URM in schools and present them more opportunities outside of “banking networking” to get an internship. I shudder thinking of the recruitment process for IB as a minority female. Worst time of my life. Wells is one of the worst.

Stronger may not be the right word here. Replace with higher. I meant more deserving minorities don’t get opportunities due to constraints.

Like... this whole thread of ppl and how they behave is why so many black and brown ppl are so unhappy in corporate America and honestly talking to black seniors at my firm from Manager to Partner it never goes away you just learn to navigate it better. I honestly am trying to exit corporate America bc the idea of just "navigating it" for my whole career sounds horrible.

And when you bring up the struggles the well actually crowd is like "show me the exact numbers" and its like "well every single black person I know in personal life and have talked to at work" is the mf number

I mean it’s true that the pools they’ve historically been recruiting from are skewed already, so even if they’re unbiased in resume screening and interviewing they won’t get a representative mix (big if). But at least for entry level recruiting they should be thinking about how to change the pools they recruit from to be more representative.

It gets even trickier when you’re talking about candidates for senior positions - if you and the rest of the industry haven’t done a good job in past of developing Black managers in certain fields, there may not be many obvious Black candidates for a particular specialized role. But it’s tone deaf to make excuses like this at any level - it may be hard but you have to get more creative or you just wind up perpetuating the same problems.

Black guy here (👋🏽) – this was no mistake. This was him on record telling his HR he’s ok with their hiring standards. Sure he’ll retract, but this is a top-down directive and the multiple levels below him have their marching orders, “do not change anything.”

My bathroom has full dark brown marble tiles and 2 yellow lights, which was done by the previous owner. I can’t change it because it’s too expensive, but I want to make it looks brighter since It always looks so dark.

What color bath mat/soap dispenser/toothbrush holder/etc do you recommend? I added some vanity lights to the mirror so it looks brighter but I need to add decor. I’m also on a budget.

I’m the dumb associate staffed on the case. I feel like I am in direct competition with someone slightly senior but who is constantly outshining me. Learning a lot but send help. This is brutal.
