Hi fishes, in urgent need of your suggestions.
One of my friend is having offer from Oracle Pune for software developer role in Oracle store team. but he does not have clear idea of the role whether it will be operations, support or development work.
Does anyone know what kind of work is there in store team. Also, is it possible to change the project once we get inside?
Urgent suggestions required...
Thanks!

[query] Is it a good idea to say a firm No due to medical reasons to a new night shift project I'm hired in?Accenture
I recently got a night shift project (2 days ago) that requires me to work from 10:30pm till 7:30am
I'm not comfortable with these timings and I'm thinking to ask my manager to put me on Bench (Due to medical reasons that involve mental health)
Is it a nice idea to say a firm No to a new project I'm hardlocked into, due to night shifts?

I don't miss anything. Love sleeping longer and not dressing up or having to commute
I also love sleeping and find it amazing that my plants stay alive
Before, I would just walk up to someones desk and quickly talk through an issue and get things done. That has now turned into setting up a call and “might as well CC these 5 people who might want to know” which leads to a lot of unnecessary questions and discussions. My company was also really relaxed about working hours. I didn’t have to be online until 10am and didn’t have to respond to things immediately. Now, I just get added to random teams chats to resolve issues all day and if I’m not responding within 5 min, it looks bad. Before, they would hold off asking me questions until they saw me in person bc it’s much easier to talk through things not over the internet. For my sanity, no it is not sustainable unless they start implementing quiet hours where we have some uninterrupted time to get work done. With the increase in the # of calls and the lack of hesitation to reach out to me for every single small thing, my hours have gone from 8-9 hr days to 11-15 hr days.
God I hope not. Hopefully the news of Comcast data caps and the gradual end of the hysteria will mean the return of choice (meaning that if one wanted to opt into office/on-site, they could, they’re not beholden to the wishes of the WFH forever crowd)
My firm was low travel to begin with but ever since wfh I have so much more time in the middle of the day to do small things like laundry, cleaning my room, and cooking. I’ve really enjoyed wfh consulting.
It will all come back guys once most people get vaccines. We may not have the pressures of weekly travel but travel will not go away. Pre-covid I was only making my team travel for important milestone meetings, workshops and doing an on-site rotation to balance time at home. I expect much of the same coming back. But the Mon-Thu weekly travel is dead. Especially for those who barely saw senior clients.
Go reformat a deck this weekend
I miss knocking on my client’s door when i need something. IM/Email/Meeting aren’t the same when you can’t judge body language.
Give me 2-3 days in the office per week and this is definitely sustainable. I was barely on-site pre-C19 so that makes no difference
I would live a shift to 10 hour work days, Monday through Thursday, while still being WFH. This would free up Friday for the weekend, which will actually be long enough to travel and still be practical.
I do not think consulting from home is sustainable. I've always found that clients respond better to working side by side with us. Any time spent off site feels like missed opportunities for relationship building.
Maybe the weekly client site travel is a thing of the past but co-locating with the engagement team would still be valued. And that’s where I fear that people in larger markets like NYC, CHI, ATL, LAX etc. would benefit while smaller/niche markets may trail.

How would it not be sustainable? Only a select group of people require client site to do any work. It’s times like these I wish my job couldn’t only b done onsite.
I don’t miss flying or hotels one bit
Per diem lol
Clients won’t want to pay our large fees without some actual on premise work. Yes all engagements I’ve been on (three) have gone super well and blew our clients expectations away, but idk if they would want to spend millions to never meet us. Plus I’m sure the firm feels like their management can make a stronger connection in person to sell more engagements. Idk I love working from home
You are right. We will be in a hybrid model - some on site and some work from home. I don’t think we go back to weekly Mon-Th travel but 100% WFH in our business likely means a 40-50% reduction in fees, which means the same for all our incomes overtime. Just look at the offshore and nearshore model for those trends.
Miss seeing new things. In US resources will become less relevant like that. I don't know why anyone would want to pay US fees for remote support, when we could staff up projects from lower cost countries... So I guess the mix of low cost to US resources will change from 10/90 to 50/50 or something around these lines...
P1 I completely agree. Why pay top dollar for someone to sit in an apartment in Manhattan. Clients are smart, and US resources are arrogant if they think offshore talent can’t compete. I see massive contraction in the US consulting market over the next few years as clients get more and more comfortable with the remoteness of their initiatives.
For system integration and some of the tech yes, with exception, absolutely.
For strategy or BPR, no
For staff aug, depends
Is it sustainable? Lol
Poooooooints
Been doing WFH for the last 7 years and I don't see myself returning to traveling anytime soon.
Do you think billing rates will inevitably fall if things stay remote, and thus consulting pay falls? Do you think it will be worth the tradeoff with the convenience of wfh?
