Inside the accounting world, yes. Outside of it, I’d call it respectable at the least
It’s a lot like your senior year in high school. You think it’s a big deal while you’re in that phase of your life, then you graduate to something better and laugh at yourself for thinking it was such a big deal. It’s a nice notch in your belt, but it doesn’t seem to matter much to anyone outside your bubble, ‘least that’s my take.
Spot on
It is and isn’t... Its the top of the top for accounting, but its accounting sooo
To get into F500 companies, it really helps as most of these companies work with big 4. And I noticed some of the job postings require or highly prefer big 4 so I would say yes.
No. When. I say I worked at PwC and EY to non accounting people they have no idea what I am talking about...sadly
Everyone I know in law, consulting, and finance knows what the big 4 are. However, I wouldn’t expect the average person to know these firms nor would they probably know the best law and consulting firms either.
Rising Star
Usually only big 3 is prestigious
Jk lol
I agree.
Rising Star
Prestige is the lie we sell to get people in the door. Yale is prestigious. Going to space is prestigious. spreadsheets for 40 years is not. Nobody’s gonna bust a nut when you tell them you’re an accountant at ~Big 4 firm~.
Rising Star
The clients who I respect with good accounting or tax departments only hire ex-Big4 exclusively to staff there departments.
This depends on market to be honest, in the UK, Russia, Australia, Canada it seems like it's prestigious (based on discussion with international secondies) because of the higher level of labor market competition in those markets (lack of other compelling opportunities, think tech or investment banking). That's why I find alot of the overseas ACCA, CA, and CPAs generally take this job more seriously because there's a sense of pride.
However in the US it's less so because of the abundance of other prestigious professions that are more rewarding.

Yes. I used to think it didn’t but ppl in industry take notice if you’re ex big 4.
No, but I would think using your Big 4 skills to work/help out a not for profit would be meaningful
I think these are respectable jobs but I am no sure about prestigious. I would think being a partner at a big4 could be considered prestigious.
Whatever helps you sleep at night buddy

Yes
Are we talking relative to FAANG software engineers, big law, and top consulting/IB firms, or AP/AR at a mom and pop.... it’s all relative lol
Yes with the kool aid. Once it wears off it “FUCKING” no. Since mine if off now all I can think about is how I can get a better quality of life!!
Simply put yes, is it a career maker? No. Does it help boost a career a bit? Yes. But I wouldn't put too much weight in any of it, if you are a high performer you will do well no matter how you start out.
