Sales

Is your company still expecting you to sell like there isn’t a pandemic going on, or is it just mine?

Yikes! We are tailoring our approach to be more sensitive during this time as many companies are not making it through and some heavily impacted. We are offering our support with any needs, but not aggressively pushing sales during this time. We have dialed back the quota and letting sales do it’s thing. Our business is essential so many customers require our products during this time so we are there if/when they need us. We have shifted our focus to be there for our customers during this difficult time rather than pushing sales.

Agreed! Well, it’s nice to hear that you are doing well! I wish you all the best!

Expectations are you continue to sell, but luckily some companies are giving quota relief.

Yep, definitely going to kill quota by regurgitating Spin Selling over and over

We started with high funnels and have survived all the deals that went to covad hell. Luckily im one of them. Everything i sell is essential to my customers. I sell bandwidth/network services

At least we got some good incentives going on that pay double the comp or 2x quots retirement but only 3 people are doing well out of 4 teams

Hey, good for those guys. Do you think it’s due to their sales motion or just luck of the draw?

Literally heard “Covid is not an excuse” the other day...but “we’re on hold due to Covid” is all I hear from prospects/customers

Yup. I’m getting a lot of that too, but I’m also sort of breaking through to them now in helping them prepare for reopening so there’s a little bit of a bright side to it all

Most definitely. I am in an “essential service” in sales; so it has been full steam ahead. Problem is that they don’t recognize that the economics have changed. I am having a good month this month, but to be honest it had more to do with luck than anything else. It’s rough out here.

Yes, we instruct our folks to sell using video etc.. We don’t think twice about FaceTiming family. Why think twice when selling with clients?

We are about maintenance of existing clients. Showing support, etc.. our thought is the sales will come if we provide the support.

I’m being let go. It came as a surprise because my time with the company I’ve gotten positive feedback. A couple of weeks ago my boss told me that I was being put on a 30 day performance review plan. The last 2 weeks I’ve gotten positive feedback about improvement but on Thursday my boss decided to cut the review plan short and give me an end date. Since I’ve been there <1 year I’m getting 2 weeks severance. Is there room for severance negotiation? A friend in HR (not ad) told me I should ask.

S&O M with an offer for SM at competitor for 25% more base and large sign on. Worth having a comp conversation with D? I’m slightly left of middle of the MBA M band. New offer is at market for SM1.

Put more money into the market. Fed will not raise rates in 3 years. No where we late to put sideline money now. More money will rush into money in the short term 12-36 months

How do you approach asking senior managers/directors/partners about writing recommendation letters? I'm applying to law school in the fall and I need some. For what it's worth I'm a second year staff at a mid-size firm, have had good reviews the entire time/known as a high-performer in my office, and I've worked directly with everybody I'm planning on asking. However, none of them know that I'm planning on applying.

Anyone have experience leaving NYC for a ‘3rd tier’ market (v small city). I’m debating a move —it would mean a 50% salary cut but hopefully a better balance and a happier me! Thoughts?

Feeling blah. Got an offer and turned it down (I wouldn’t have taken), and told this other company that I got an offer, which resulted in the recruiter speeding up my 2nd interview. After the interview, they said that they’d need another interview and to speak to my refs before going forward, and that if I have an offer, they don’t want me to hold me back from taking it. Mind’s kind of in a jumble after this long process. Thoughts from my fellow fish?

Being offered a temp-to-perm AD gig by an agency in NY. Currently I'm a mid-level making $90k, in-house, tier-2 city. I got 4yrs exp. Is temp same as freelance? What should I charge them for that gig considering it's gonna be temp in the start?
