It blew my mind to learn about compulsory heterosexuality and gender performativity. It’s weird because even years later of being aware of these concepts, I find myself having to unlearn things that were buried deep inside me without even realizing. It’s hard but it’s worth it.

What are most 2nd and 3rd year litigation associates at small/boutique sized firms making in the SF Bay Area? Helpful if you specify defense/plaintiff side, base salary, benefits, bonus, billable requirements, and would also be interested to know gender/ethnicity (for pay-gap purposes) if comfortable sharing. Asking because I think this kind of (anonymous) transparency helps us all in advocating for fair compensation for ourselves.

I’ve noticed companies are starting to ask if you wish to identify if you’re LGBTQ+ when applying for jobs. When I’ve gone along with this I notice recruiters focus more on diversity and employee groups, and it’s making me feel like I’m being interviewed as a potential diversity hire, especially when I’ve received interviews from companies that are prone to boy’s club culture. Looking for advice: been at my new job for about 6 months and absolutely hate it. I’m overworked and underpaid. A friend is a VP at a fund that I’m interested in joining and has offered to refer me but he won’t be involved in the hiring process past that point. Do I take the referral now and risk them thinking I’m a job hopper or do I suffer for 6 more months and hope they’re hiring then?
