We can change the narrative by getting into the media more often in other roles than athletes, sluts, and entertainers. We need to make more podcasts, hire more black creative directors, push our kids into creative, public avenues.
I always say that the smartest, best, good natured, wholesome men I know are black men (and women are of course amazing, I am one) and none of them are like these caricatures on tv. But our jobs are techie/desk jobs. They’re the safe jobs. People don’t see them.
We need to provide more support for youth to be content creators, storytellers, producers. I truly blame it on the “media” (or lack of our presence there behind in in front of the scenes in positive, realistic ways) end rant
In the past few years there's been several hate crimes done by young white men, but it's never labeled as such. But "terrorist" can be so easily applied to anyone of color. Its sick when people have to die due to hate. The youth who passed away at the Waffle House this past weekend, prayers for their souls and comfort to their families. Smh. Y’all stay safe. Sorry this is the life we have to live and those after us
The spin is already ready his mental state. The depressed white man is the most dangerous man in America.
Depressed, scared white guys with low confidence and access to weapons are dangerous to society in general.
DD1...I feel like our generation needs the safe jobs so our kids can have the opportunity to go for those creative jobs. To think ~155 years ago slavery was just getting rubbed out in America...that’s 2 lifetimes. Not a long time...
As my father said, “You’ve gotta kiss ass before you can kick it.” We’re not there yet, but we will be.
Even the men who were waiting at Starbucks. People went from “we don’t know the whole story” to “they should have bought some coffee”. I’m glad nothing major happened to them
I agree at D1. I'm using my safe job for the time being to prepare a way for my godchildren and future children. Once I've gotten everything I can out of this position, I'll move on to job where I can be the change I want to see in my community.
That’s totally fair DD. Agreed.
People everywhere are fighting to make space for minorities in the non-traditional roles but no one wants to pay mind unless they fit whiter trope or stereotypes they want to play out. They still have the 1950s attitude of “there is only room for so many”. And even when we create our own, it’s not given space or room to thrive because it doesn’t fit the narrative. It’s shameful and sad really.
