Honest discussion: If you’re not vaccinated against COVID-19 by now, why not? What would make you change your mind, if anything?
Given everything going on with Covid - do you think I should cancel a trip to Italy last week of March?
I’m a solo appellate attorney doing almost exclusively court-appointed work. Work is starting to dry up fast because of Covid. I’m 14 years into my career and I don’t have any other experience other than appellate work in one jurisdiction. Any ideas of a different practice area where my skills could translate? I’ve also applied to firms but concerned that they don’t want to hire someone who spent the last decade as a solo. Thoughts?
I’m confused... why is the White House Coronavirus task force running the show rather than the CDC? Isn’t this exactly what the CDC is supposed to be doing? Anyone here have intel?
Anyone else spending thanksgiving completely alone due to covid like me? If so, any suggestions on how to spend the day without turning into Scrooge (aka wallowing 😂)
How has COVID-19 impacted your company and your benefits? (Examples: layoffs, furloughs, terminations, no more 401K matching, no promotions, hiring freeze?) Please share :)
Junior attorney at a big law. Ever since COVID and WFH, the firm requires us to release our hours every day. If we don’t, we get called out or worse, get treated as if we didn’t work any hours. It’s an easy task and I never fell behind releasing my time, but psychologically, I feel so restless because we get staffed on how much we billed the day prior and this system fails to take into account the extreme ebb and flow of transactional group. Will daily release become the norm in big law?
WFH/Remote Covid Poll
So if you think you caught the coronavirus and starting getting get some symptoms like sneezing and coughing, should you just stay home and isolate and see if it gets better or go see a doctor immediately?
Has anyone travelled to Nepal from the US recently? What were the COVID procedures like in Kathmandu and was the transit process en-route any different because of COVID?
I’d love a bit of advice. I started a new job just before COVID hit and it’s been awful. They operate in complete chaos and are both abusive and demand that we’re available at all times. I’ve been interviewing and have been through 2 rounds with a new agency and I feel really good about it. My goal is to be out by Christmas and I’m at the end of my rope. Would you/have you put in early notice before officially having a new job?
Pfizer vaccine is 94% effective against transmission of COVID. I’ve had both rounds of Pfizer. If my risk of catching or transmitting a disease is virtually nil, there is no compelling reason for me to wear a mask. If you disagree, you’re not listening to the science! https://abcnews.go.com/Health/pfizer-vaccine-shows-94-effectiveness-asymptomatic-transmission-covid/story?id=76389615
I know this is controversial, but would you get a vaccine if you didn’t have kids yet? I feel like there isn’t enough information on if/how this could potentially affect fertility. I personally contemplate waiting a little longer (at least until it’s FDA approved), but at the same time thinking maybe I’m over reacting?
Unions frequently cite understaffing because of illness, and shortages of rapid tests and medical-grade masks. https://www.nytimes.com/2022/01/08/us/teachers-unions-covid-schools.html?unlocked_article_code=AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACEIPuonUktbfqYhkSVUbCybIRp87oxSNhfXV2_khgH75KjPQQjFczuhQGIOA_EDJfuxje943lXy9deN2DYUOFrZ03_MNeAtkURWpqZ-J38QPLylooN3iG21tgMiIAOsyqHrgYzDjbbxxyue05BnWYWnpULfNkiF0fHYTqpNkc1ut2nMLxL6UUbImn4kjgopyQ8xyVjwCZyKVvvH3ChQYO9-OaxzU6AFeSPgOEHiI3obas-RcBV0UXVHWT3p_4nI-6MdcO74XPqX5Kh0heKnukF5g61dDOtefmXzYapEztWI&referringSource=articleShare
Putting in my notice tomorrow. Could not have come at a worst time. I’m the last associate left in the group (4 partners now). The other associate just put in notice literally 3 days ago. I did not see that coming, but nonetheless, an offer of my own came in and I can’t say no. I know a lot of firms have experienced attrition over COVID, but these circumstances make me feel horrible. I’m anticipating a horrible response. Any insight on how to handle is appreciated.
Anyone else expanding their job search to in-house or just less “glamorous” opportunities during Covid? I’m (male, early 40s) finding I can no longer justify protecting my ad career as much now that jobs are few and far between. There’s no clear end in sight for this recession and I can’t afford to wait forever for the perfect gig. I’m trying to see the bright side of things as much as possible but can’t help but wonder if I’m making a mistake by lowering my standards.
Is it dumb to go on a date today? Met on dating app and dying for social interaction but is it bad bc of covid? (I'm in LA)
Is it safe to do a networking call with someone in your company on company phone? Assume your firm encourages internal mobility. Prior to covid I’d do coffee chat away from our desk but can’t do that now.
Anyone on here tiktok-ing? Like making vids? Or just me? I hadnt heard of the app till covid tbh

Ah now it did.
My company is now displaying!
Has the virus deterred you from going out (eating at restaurants, bars, hangout spots with friends, etc)?
New senior flies in a day late, busts into the room with no apologies, and tells me (the only minority & female in the room) that I should get the coffee before the manager comes. I'm the manager. 😏
My younger brother has the opportunity to do Software Engineering at FAANG and consulting at MBB as a fresh grad. I told him to do SWE, but I’m afraid I’m giving him biased advise cause I’m jaded in this industry. If you were me, what would you advise him?
How long does it take for bonuses to be paid out after your performance outcome has been communicated at other firms? Our comp system is slightly complex so we know promotions Dec-Jan while bonuses are paid out late Feb-Early March (aka 2-3 months) Edit: Performance year ends in September (so total process is 5-6 months)
Asked staff for help on fire drill and they said they would start right away. Call 5 hours later at 10PM and they haven't started because they wanted to watch "their show". Should I go off in the AM?
The moment you realize your DU room is better than the upgraded hotel suite you're currently in 😀
Systemwide Upgrade Miles on AA - how do these work? Can I use these on any global ticket I buy on American? And, can I apply them to international travel booked on points?
Senior Managers- why do you ignore it when analysts ping you or email you? I literally have gotten ignored more times than I can count.
I was asked by a friend for a few management consultant books (similar to liar's poker in the finance industry) to check out. The only one I can think of is Peter Drucker's Adventures of a Bystander (good but not too much consulting)... any suggestions! 😁
