Shitting on an airplane has been the worst part of my consulting experience to date
Upside... you will still have a job as tax and audit are going overseas. Downside, you still have a job
Interested as well. Can’t do compliance crap for much longer...
Downside is unpredictability and not knowing when you will travel next as you transition off an engagement, what your hours are like, etc. Think audit and tax folks go into the year having a better idea since those clients can be the same year after year
Cyclical and more potential for layoffs but less likely these days since companies keep lean personnel and outsourcing more and more
I would say at the partner level it is much better to be an audit partner than a consulting or advisory partners. You have your core audit clients and your time is focused on managing those relationships vs winning new clients all the time. Partners in TAS spend 60% of the workweek trying to find their next projects, and the remaining time they work on their actual projects which ends up being about the same amount of work as what an audit partner does.

Consulting is lit
Consulting is awesome when you are young. Get a house, significant other, pet, kid, etc and see how fun it is to be on the road 75% of the year.
Except advisory partners have less regulatory oversight and thus less risk.
