I think calling yourself a "domain expert" is going a bit far? I know consultants in public policy who've been at it for years before they developed a reputation as one.
The difference is that in college you had many other "domains" you were studying for versus just one or two.

College had more discussions around what was learned... There's a lot more solo research and reasoning on the job. Not a bad thing, just noting the difference.
Do we really become "domain experts" though? I feel like we have a good idea on the client's problem, but not necessarily a whole domain! In my experience anyway ! 😊😊😉
