Happy 2021 everyone!! If you stayed in town over the holidays and assuming no work, what did y'all end up doing in the last week? As someone who doesn't live with family, I haven't been able to find much to do here during covid times (which took out the causal City / nightlife / dinner outings with friends). I have been to several lakes and trails over my 3 years here but found them underwhelming. Arbor Hills Preserve is probably the only decent place. Suggestions? TIA

Any current/future residents of NYC rethinking moving there as of recent? Have always planned on doing a 1-2 year pit stop in NYC but feeling wary due to COVID, rise in [reported] crimes, CoL, etc. Not sure if I’m just overthinking news I’ve read (EG: the recent death of the Deloitte SM) but would love to get others thoughts and opinions.

Since bashing the government (during any administration) is par for the course, worth mentioning that the COVID test kit site is amazing. Takes 20 seconds to submit the order. Very well done and easy.

Help me out, everyone seems to be having much milder symptoms with Omicron. Is the hospital capacity issue due to people panicking and going to the hospital despite having mild symptoms or because staff are out with illness? I don’t understand how the medical system is on the brink of collapse right now. Maybe I have a skewed view of Omicron based on anecdotal experience?

I originally accepted a new job with the intentions to move to the new location after COVID ended. I now have family obligations that I need to attend to and can’t move in the near future. So I now have to look for a new job, what do I say during interviews? I’ve only been here 3 months. Another option is to try to boomerang, but I got a good pay and title bump by leaving. I’m 24 and don’t really know what to do.

How do you make a new friends in 2022? Took a job in a small, quiet city. Blue New England area that's very COVID cautious. Most bars close before 11p. I like the firm, I like the work, but I cannot see myself staying long term in an area where I don't have friends and everyone seems scared of interacting with people they don't know. I'm not even talking about dating (though that'd be nice), I'm just talking about not spending all my off time drinking alone in my apartment.

Long Island City 1b subletting for 6 months (late Mar - late Sep). We bought a house and are looking to sublet our apartment. Lease was signed in 2020 and the building is rent stabilized, so you’ll be able to take advantage of the Covid discount and continue to if you decide to renew. It is a one bedroom in Linc, a luxury building with a full package of amenities. This unit has an amazing Manhattan skyline view. rent is 3300, which is significantly lower than the comparable market price of 3800

A Google recruiter found me on LI 2yrs ago. I went down the hiring path for three months for a UX position. Great experience & I did well all the way through. I made it to the final interview where I was invited on-site to Mountain View, CA. After so much time and many interviews, I didn’t get a final offer. It was disappointing. All my recruiter could tell me was that I had amazingly high marks for Googliness but couldn’t give me specifics on why I didn’t make it all the way through…
