Normal and firm policy most likely. If the client is cost conscious they are likely watching.
Also, from a legal tax perspective, if you get per diem and a meal, one of the two is considered compensatory income.
I only mind it when the dinner they purchase is less than the amount I would otherwise get via per diem for that meal. If I'm supposed to get $25 for the meal, but you buy the team pizza and it only cost you $10 a head; I'm technically losing out on $15 that I could have pocketed.
If dinner was provided to you, then yes, you must deduct dinner from your per diem. This is how per diem works everywhere. You don’t get to double dip
At D we always expense it, but then we expense actuals. Team dinners don't count toward the daily food allowance, though.
I agree it feels cheap; I would just politely decline and say I already purchased groceries or something along those lines.
OP- what form
What company OP? Normal and is official policy at Accenture
Only if you were going to spend $10 on dinner.
I never uncheck/not claim for pizza lunches or anything cheap, but always for team dinners...agree with A2
I know it's technically correct to unselect the meal that you get provided, but I don't think I've ever told my team to do this after I bought them dinner.
