It's almost every year that students find out my phone number without me giving it to them. Last year my cellphone number was given out to parents on a welcome letter from my grade level team. I was not happy about that.

If my number was public I'd switch my number.

My school provides us with cellphones so parents and students can contact us. I would be pissed if my personal number was given out. Definitely check your contract and ensure your privacy rights haven’t been violated

likesmart

It is but it can still make parents think they have access to you 24/7 so I put that thing on a time. I don’t answer on weekends unless major projects are due and I don’t answer after 8:30pm or before 7am

like

That is a direct infringement on your privacy rights - pls look at your contract and HR materials on teacher privacy.

like

Time to change your number and get it unlisted.

like

Why don't you want scholars to have your number? I give my number out so that parents and scholars can contact me if they need my help.

Oh hell no. They're already emailing me at all hours of the night (2am!!). My number is MY number, not my job's!

Wow! 😮 At my school every teacher has an extension number, so parents can call the school and leave message.

I like Google Hangouts, because we all have google accounts at school anyway.

I don't mind sharing mine, though I don't offer it openly to everyone, but on an ad needed basis. But this far, it seems the elementary school teachers find it ok & the h.s. teachers r reluctant. I think age level may be relevant.

Personally I give out my number. In my community any contact is important. If abused it’s very easy to block a number these days. More importantly if the easiest form of communication for my parents are a text, I want them to have that option. I usually keep it short, treat the text like a email and move it to verbal as soon as possible.

like

I’m in the same boat. Any contact is important, especially since I barely talk to any parents during conferences, open house, etc. I tell my students I’m available to answer questions until 10 pm and so far no one has abused it.

I’d be livid if my number was given out. That’s an invasion of privacy. One of my coworkers gave her number out and the mom would call her at 5 am. We’re told at my school that it is strongly recommended we do not give out personal phone numbers.

I am bilingual in a small, rural town with a high percent of non-English speakers. My number has been given out to more people that I can count over the 13 years working in my county.

My rules:
1. If I don't have you listed as a contact, I do not answer. If you leave a message, I will get back to you when I am able.
2. Even if you are a contact, I probably won't answer, and I won't call you back unless you leave a message.
3. I respond fairly quick to texts, Messenger, and Remind, regardless of what time it is.

I have never had a problem with parents abusing the ability to contact me. I control how and when I use my phone, and how and when I respond back on my own time.

We are required to give out our phone number so parents and students can reach us anytime about questions or assignments or grades etc. I've learned to accept it but l really don't like it.

We are Required To give our number on the syllabus and posted in our classroom
at my school. But we also have a text messaging system. That delivers messages to parents w/o using our own numbers. The posted cell in the classroom
Is do students can reach you for academic questions on HW and we have a cut off of 8:30pm.
I’ve worked here for 5 yrs and there have been no issues won’t students or parents contacting me inappropriately. If the message comes too late- I’m asleep or I ignore it. If it’s
Too early I send back, I’ll talk to you at school. The kids don’t want to contact the teacher but will use “i didnt understand” as the reason not to finish their homework. It’s a way to eliminate excuses for them.

I give out my personal number to certain parents, but use school email also and that is public on the school's website. At my school there is only one phone for teachers to use and that is in the copy room, so no confidentiality.

I received a rejection email from a L.E.K. Consulting recruiter. And at the same time my application status changed to offer accepted. Lol

Is it a norm to send a thank you note through your recruiter? I had an iffy interview, and wondering if I bother sending a thank you note. It was very clear that they were trying to do a stress interview so I feel weird saying the usual nice things.

Alright please advise: My first name can be used for both male and female identifying people. In addition, my last name can also be used as a males first name. Let’s just say my name is: Alex John. Often times when people meet me, they refer to me as my last name (John), thinking that I am male. They’ll do this even after I signed my full name to an email (first, last) OR they’ll assume that I’m male from my first name (Alex). Either way I identify as female and I’m bothered by their assumptions

She really struggled with classroom management this year, and it got so bad that the behaviors were affecting all of us on the team.
