You're not kidding! At the beginning of the year, I felt like I had a bunch of feral animals in my classroom. They've come a long way toward normal social behavior again, but it was definitely a rough/unusual year.

Socialization certainly took a hit, as did academic skill development and mental health overall. It’s so nice to hear that you’ve fostered socialization in your classroom. Thank you!
Among the many issues in our society that the pandemic revealed, we now have proof that we have been relying on teachers to turn little id-driven semi-feral children into cooperative, empathetic, functioning members of society.
The pandemic is over? Did anyone tell the virus?

Did anyone tell the kids? 🫤
So...you're thinking the pandemic is over, hmm? Okaaaaayyyy... but I just wanted to add that my patience is literally gone. I am so so so tired of "these poor kiddos...". My belief is that so many kids had a tough time because the haven't learned any coping skills. Mommy and Daddy fix everything for them, so when they're faced with true hell, they lose it. Perhaps if I hadn't dealt with a year of "My camera won't work..." lies and black boxes staring me in the face while I try to keep positive..perhaps then I'd have some sympathy.
Exactly. I questioned a kid yesterday when he left a required event early (it ran after school hours, which they were made aware of, and were given alternatives to). I did not raise my voice, but I did make it clear that while I couldn't stop him, this was not O.K. That was enough to generate a message that I had been unfair and overly harsh. Seriously?
I was trained and hired to teach subject matter and academic skills. That takes all of my time and energy. I am sick of teachers being regarded as one-stop convenience stores expected to supplying the world with well-educated, well-adjusted human beings.
