Completely understand your frustration, but puzzled why you expect compassion and empathy from recruiters. They’re people doing a job, they’re not your friends. Some will be emotionally generous, but that’s exactly what it is — generosity. It’s not part of their job. Expecting it from them seems like a recipe for disappointment.
Pro
Nah we don't need empathy from recruiters. They simply just need to close the loop. A curt email response doesn't take long to do.
Does any child think, “When I grow up, I want to be a recruiter”? There are exceptions, but for the most part, there’s no true desire to help people. They kind of stumble on to the job. Like real estate brokers. Same type of person.

This is actually true. I talked to a recruiter once and asked how they got into it. They said they moved to the city without a job and then just stumbled into it.

They don’t even need to be nice. Just say “Thank you for interviewing with us, but unfortunately we’re going with someone else.”
That’s it. You can copy and paste it and send it to anyone. Candidates just need closure.
Agreed, common courtesy, not asking that much.

Not sure why you feel they should have compassion, but it’s a dumb move on their part to ghost people. Most of my jobs, including at Uncle D, were ones that I didn’t get at first but remained in touch. Burning bridges isn’t smart.
Often I think recruiters have been burned by a needy applicant or somebody that got angry they didn’t get the job, so they (oddly & incorrectly) think most people will act that way. The key is to be honest and keep them in your network.
Recruiting, like most of HR, tends to be rather horrible imo with no/little repercussions. The answer to horrible HR is always more HR with minor lip service paid to accountability.

I've worked with recruiters for long enough to understand they just don't give a crap about candidates who are not going to the next round. They only invest time in the ones that are gonna get the job because those are the ones getting them that sweet sweet commission.
While its frustrating, I would not take it too hard. Just ignore them and keep pushing forward. Your time and emotions are too valuable to be wasted on these people. Hang tight OP.
You should find a recruiter who is working for you. I wouldn’t expect much from a recruiter looking to fill one role which you may qualify for.
Pro
Same thing. I’m either ghosted or I only hear something, if the recruiter has another role open for me. Only then, will they mention it was a no go.
Maybe the recruiter got laid off if it’s retail
