Asalamualaikum everyone, hope everyone had a great thanksgiving holiday and some Black Friday shopping with family and friends? This is my first time in this bowl and I’m liking what I see so far.
I'm hitting my personal lowest. I'm taking vacation next week to just "be at home" and don't answer emails. I am on local project but pretty burned out so really all I want to do is anything but work.
How to grow a beard in a professional manner: step 1- leave on vacation for >1 week; step 2- don't shave; step 3- never come back...
How do sick days work? Just realized that 1/3 of my “PTO” is actually sick days (and it’s not generous and you don’t get paid out when you leave). I’m very lucky to not get sick but does that mean in order to use some I’ll have to spontaneously say I’m ill with little advanced notice? Seems like a policy which rewards people for leaving their team in a lurch.
Been with the firm 5 years. Leaving for m vacation tonight and not taking my laptop with me for the first time ever. Such a strange feeling
S. Korea arbitrage opportunity? I am visiting in April wih my girlfriend who is a resident and has a bank account. Can she get setup on Korbit or another exhange, I buy BTC here, transfer to her, she sells for KRW and then we fund our vacation from the arbitrage profits? We wouldn't be trying to repatriate the funds or take them out of Korea

Hey could use some honest opinions on this because I’m still in shock. I was preparing to give in my resignation + 2 weeks from EY on Monday to jump ship to Deloitte. I accepted the offer from Deloitte on Friday, and I just got hit with a bomb today that my brother has cancer and we have no idea what stage it’s at. Should I just rescind my acceptance from Deloitte? I don’t know how it would be taken if I start at a new firm and immediately need substantial flexibility and time off.
Have taken an unpaid leave to spend time/vacation with family in my home country. It’s caused an issue with my manager which is making me anxious and depressed. How can I compartmentalize my anxiety and be present with family for the next few weeks before going back to the office?
Planning to accept another job soon but have a scheduled 1 week vacation starting next week. When should I put in 2 weeks notice that I’m leaving? Is it a risk that they withdraw approval of my long-approved PTO? New job wants me to start ASAP so I’d feel bad delaying start dat over a month if the solution is to wait until after vacation to give 2weeks notice
How long did others take to study for the GMAT? If I have 2 concentrated weeks of full-time study (taking vacation) would that be sufficient? Thank you!
How much leeway do you have when negotiating start dates? I would like to start in Jan since I save most of my PTO for the holidays. If I start in Nov/Dec I either won’t be able to take it or will start in a hole. Plus new job offers WAY less PTO (VP thought it was 10 days to start vs my current 25, but am currently waiting for formal offer from HR).
Thoughts on Google RTO office date? Will it be pushed back more than Jan 10 with the holiday season and all? Don’t want to relocate if we will be postponing RTO
Should I work a bit during holiday break to get my areas in good shape or just say f this and take time off because audit is going to get done no matter what. I inherited messy area from a person who recently left the firm and leadership was saying we (as in I) need to put in extra effort to close down review notes that the previous girl left (there’s about 89 open as of now lol)
Does anyone else find it difficult to ask for time off? I haven’t taken a “vacation day” since February, billed 185+ hour months consistently through the pandemic (exceeded hours for 2020 bonus eligibility), and am feeling pretty burnt out. It’s hard because other associates in my department haven’t really taken any time off either (or it has been a day or two sporadically). Would really love to take some days over Christmas to recharge but I’m nervous about perception.
“So we’ve cut their pay, axed most of their friends, what’s next?” “Ohhh ohhh, their PTO, but make it seem like it’s a good thing”
Me after a day of PTO
I just got laid off from a strategy consulting boutique in the UK that primarily works with PE funds doing CDD/VDD. It goes without saying that the market is terrible. I suspect no strategy firms are hiring and it will need to be an in-house move or if I could stretch it PE/VC. What are people’s thoughts and does anyone have any advice?
What's the earliest in someone's tenure you've seen them fired from MBB and why? (Looking for validation that the feeling like I'm doing a sub-par job, but trying to be coachable, 7 months into my job doesn't equate to getting fired in the next 5-17 months...)
Is change management a skill set used by industry? I want to position myself to have options in a few years, but I just don't see that as being an FTE function.
Does anyone have suggestions for experienced manager level positions that fit the following criteria in the big 3/4? : little/no travel, challenging/interesting work.
Genuine question as I wanted to know is it strange for someone to want to switch to advisory from tax. Would it be difficult for someone to transition from that position? I understand that they are too completely different work but similar fields. Also wanted to know what’s the day to day basis like for advisory during covid and in general
Business class travel? Joining Accenture in a Senior Manager role in Sales which would require me to travel to India and other international locations from the US. Whats are the travel perks at Accenture ? Eligibility for business class?
Is end-of-year bonus season a lost cause at this point? (In a firm with no layoffs or pay cuts yet).
SC offer from Deloitte in transaction services in a HCOL city - 85 base plus standard bonus. I asked her if there was more wiggle room bc that’s what I’ll get at my current firm when I make senior. Am I out of line with my expectations or right in asking for more?
I got laid off from my accounting/consulting firm in January and have since been taking a class related to my industry but from a tech angle. I prefer to leave consulting but could stay off the work and work life balance were better. I signed up for this class thinking hiring woods be soft until midyear give or take just wish the class finished. I look on this app and it seems everyone is hiring. Am I missing the boat by not being in a full throttle job search now?
Hello Consulting moms, I was wondering if anyone moved States after COVID? I live in Virginia (15min from DC) and we’re thinking to move to Texas. Dallas or Austin not sure yet. Any recommendations/advice? My son will be starting Middle-school. 😩 Thank you so much!

Deloitte Federal home office: do you think that these would be ok for work? http://m.shop.nordstrom.com/s/l-k-bennett-lara-bootie-women/4025236?origin=category-personalizedsort&fashioncolor=BLACK%20MESH%20NAPPA
For people here making less than 100K who max out their 401K / HSA, can I have a conversation with you about your taxes paid ? Is it significantly less or is your take home significantly less ? Trying to assess the financial impact to my take home if I max out my 401K. Ty!
Key West vs Miami for a baby moon in December / January? Any Marriott recommendations for a low key getaway in either location?
I just joined consulting and have an offer from FAANG paying the same salary. Do I jump? What will pay off more?
What sort of yearly salary increase are you guys getting? Is it normal to expect merit (performance) + cost of living/inflation? I got 1.5% and don’t know how to feel about that..
