D3/B12/Iron deficiency
Diabetes is ruled out. Blood work is normal for everything.
Do you still have the pins and needles or has it been resolved? I started getting this four weeks after Covid and it worsened to stabbing nerve pain.
FYI B12 deficiency is notoriously hard to diagnose by bloodwork and most doctors are not very knowledge about it, even hematologists. Esp because serum B12 level is not a good indicator - esp if you’ve been supplementing (some B12 tests require you to be clear of any supplements for 4 months).
Sometimes it’s not the diet or intake, it’s stomach absorption issues - lack of intrinsic factor, intrinsic factor antibodies, anti-parietal cell antibodies, homocysteine, MMA, serum gastrin. Or recent viral infection, Helicobacter Pylori infection, chronic atrophic gastritis, PPI use, etc, are also factors.
If it does turn out to be B12 deficiency, it can be deadly in a few years — if you have ongoing symptoms, I do recommend you join the Pernicious Anemia and B12 Deficiency Support Group on Facebook and read through their Files section. Treatment is addressing by B12 injections (NOT sublinguals, patches, or oral supplements) that allow it to bypass the stomach and the malabsorption issues. “Trying several weeks of every other day B12 injections and seeing if you have any kind of response (more fatigue etc) / if it works” is also a valid test and one that has worked for me.
Lumbar spine issues. But yes, go see a doctor.
Most likely this one. I’ll get checked.
