Because generally (key word, generally) those folks are at startups that don’t have capacity to pay folks $140k to play with shapes and Google. However, if they IPO (small chance, but not impossible) then your net worth becomes a rounding number to them.
It all comes down to risk tolerance. You went the safe route, and they took a riskier, but potentially more lucrative route (maybe not by choice)
My brother has 1 yoe making 120k at a tech real estate firm (non startup) as a SE- jobs are deff out there. Idk why someone who wants to code would be at B4 when it seems like so much opportunity is out there
You are not flexing here lol.most good computer scientists get paid twice the amount you get with same yos
Most software engineers with 2 or 3 years of experience aren't making 300k TC. The average across the US is around 108k. If you're only looking at a few very highly paid companies the data isn't going to be close to accurate.

There are folks with CS degrees who make over 250K with just 2.5 YOE. There are folks making PPT who make 50K with 2.5 YOE. It all depends on the company you got hired at.
I think your benchmark is off. You’re comparing what a top business graduate makes to an average computer science graduate makes.
I think you know this but most consulting folks are not getting paid very well outside of top firms.
Actually in big 4 consulting and t2 firms I am the norm. As long as you went to a top 100 business school what I have earned is attainable. I see it everyday. Honestly, i could be earning more but I chicken out during salary negotiations

There are people who do much more useful things to society who get paid far less. Life is unfair
Only mediocre/average CS grads are taking developer positions in consulting. If you were a top student, you’d be at FAANG or similar making 120-150+ out of college
Pro
Faang software engineers are minting 500k in 4-5 years

You lumping all CS graduates and SWE together would be the same as someone lumping all Consultants together.
There’s a wide variety of skills, capabilities, and project work in CS and SWE. I manage offshore SWEs, some of whom it would be disrespectful to the monkey to call them code monkey’s, and they’re making $30k USD a year with like 5+ YOE.

Makes sense!
First, there's a lot of variation in terms of skills among CS grads. Second, people optimize when they're looking for work for things besides money - for instance, being able to live in a particular place or work in a particular industry, wlb, upward mobility within a company, or job stability - and that affects how much companies are going to have to pay to get the people they want.
If you're uncomfortable with your salary or unsure how your level of compensation is where it is, you can think about the pipeline for how you got there and what was being selected for. There's probably something there. For instance, having attended certain schools may or may not make you better at your job, but some companies will pay a premium for that because their clients care about it.

I think you are looking at a wrong sample size lol my roommates in college were CS and they all started out making at least $120k base
Rising Star
Top computer science people with 2YOE are making upwards of 250kTC, even top CS people with 0YOE makes $180-200kTC. People making $95k at 2YOE are the mediocre ones
Also location dependent. There’s three places in the country that pay too CS folks well. Not everyone wants to live in NYC, Bay Area or Seattle.
You go to good school?
Yea, no. Many SE’s are making way more than you with 2 YOE. College grads are coming out of school with 6 figure base salaries and another 6 figures in RSU’s.
There are varying levels of developers. If I’m paying $95k for one, I’m not expecting much.
I make more than 140k in tech with same YOE in a low col city outside of faang.
It's a superstar economy
I can barely sum a column in excel and get 200k

This is one of the reasons I why I told my sister to at the very least consider majoring in Comp Sci. She took a class to try it out and loved it, now that’s her major!
There’s always levels and you’re picking and choosing your data.
