It's funny that there have been so many Uber haters who relentlessly criticized the company for making taxi drivers go broke...yet I am not hearing any staunch WFH supporters worry about tens of thousands of facilities management and maintenance professionals whose jobs will all but disappear if people do not return to their offices.

What an illogical argument.

I hate Uber because I’m breathing in the fumes of 60,000 of them circling around Manhattan right now. To give you a perspective of how insanely huge that number is, NYC yellow medallion taxis were always capped at just over 16,000.

like

At least medallion taxi drivers know the Division Street shortcut to the Manhattan Bridge. An Uber driver goes into full panic-mode if their GPS route is blocked by a fire truck.

Nice strawman argument...

What do you think they are going to do, bulldoze every office building in the country? No. Our work model is shifting to a more hybrid office/WFH structure but buildings will still be around and those buildings will always need facilities management. Who are you arguing against here?

like

Bring back buggy whips, those people need jobs.

Why not just make the point that you want to make instead of making some weird belittling comparison? You’re right, many of those workers might lose their jobs or have their hours slashed if many of us do not return to the office. But something else will probably occupy those spaces even if the corporate office model goes away. What’s your point?

like

That comparison makes no sense. No correlation whatsoever

Not sure if y’all have been in a similar situation but I’m staffed on a project that is mindless busy work and I feel like I’m not progressing in my career. Makes me ponder where I went wrong in life sometimes: How did I do a top-tier MBA just to take a step back in my career? My job pre MBA was way more analytically challenging. Not sure if I’m being super negative or are some of these thoughts normal? Is it WFH syndrome? Thoughts on how to cope?

They were seemingly good, competent consultants good at structuring problems. They cared about junior consultants. Didnt see any issues with clients..

Sometimes travel is not easy like it should be. I had a $1200 credit (b class flight from Paris to NY) from American Airlines that I was told was good for any trip. After 30+ hours between call backs and different desks, they tell me because the trip originated in euros I can only apply it in the US. Fine, but then after another hour on hold, I hear that it can only be redeemed in person at a ticket counter in Paris. I live in NY. Was never told of these stipulations before. Never again AA
