It's kind of weird how unstructured law firm interviews are, when the hires are pretty consequential

Really? I think banking interviews are pretty similar. Granted, consulting is quite a bit more structured.

No way, banking / finance interviews ask tons of quantitative and substantive questions, which is one of the reason Wall Street Oasis exists

like

I think they’re actually quite structured from an HR perspective when hiring interns and 1st year associates and whatnot.

From then onwards we’ll hire whoever we like basically. So it’s two extremes

Insane turnover has just become par for the course I think. Firms seem to be immune to it. I would think firms who don’t get the really high rates (which is almost all of them) would be way more conscientious when it comes to hiring and retaining lawyers.

There’s a tremendous lack of preparation for the interviews (both in terms of general interview skills and then with respect to the person being interviewed). From an associate perspective, I’ve never felt like I’ve had a meaningful say on hiring (typically whatever the partners want to do goes), so I’ll hold my hand up and say I haven’t prepared well, but it really does have to improve.

Completed Google on-site around 2 weeks ago. Yesterday the recruiter reached out to me saying she has ‘updates’ and wanted to connect today. I sent her some slots to connect and she did not reply. When I reached out today, she said she is overwhelmed with work and wants to connect after the long weekend. I have no option but to wait for 4 days now.
What do you guys think the reason for this delay could be? Is recruiter purposely buying time? Or she could truly be overwhelmed? Thoughts?

Has anyone had issues with hiring department? I applied to a IT position, passed the interview and they gave me a start date and salary. I was very happy and can’t wait to start but then… my recruiter told me that we have to delay the start date because my badge has not been created yet. Then it has been 4 weeks later and they say they are very sorry for the wait and they increased my pay up significantly to help compensate for the lost days. But idk what to do.. should I stay or look elsewhere

I was recently offered a Zoom interview. I had 10 slots to choose from. I took the first slot available. Three were one day earlier this week and the rest are next week. Does it look good (or desperate, lol) on my part that I took the first time or should I have waited until next week so that I would be fresher on their minds when choosing a candidate? Also, do interviewers still appreciate a handwritten note after an interview?

Hi everyone !

I am trying to relocate in London, as a Legal Counsel in Privacy.

The opportunities there seems more interesting in terms of missions and financially. I had interviews for companies but one obstacle keeps coming up: I am not a qualified lawyer because is it not necessary to be one when you’re an in house in France.

I do have 2,5 years of experience as a Legal Counsel in Privacy and strong referrals.

Do you maybe have any tips to help me :) ?

Many thanks!

Hello Tram, Hope all are doing great!
I already submitted my resume and application to American Express and was curious about whether you are in contact with your company’s hiring team. If so, it would be a tremendous help if you were able to refer me for the Customer Service position. I’m confident that your referral would go a long way toward helping me land the interview I need to get the job. Need assistance.

Ebay PMs - figure out a way to stop the classic scam of someone buying an item and telling the seller to text them with questions about the product. They have no intention of paying and it’s a scam. If you get an ML engine hooked up to detect these kinds of messages, you could block them automatically and relist the item. The last three times I’ve sold something this same thing happened, all from different buyers with messages that only differed by a few words. Easy solve for this.
