I think a clear articulation on why the move now is suffice (basically your direct to Sr Associate case didn’t happen due to end of 2 year program) That said, why did you agree to accept this role if that would of or could have been the case?

I like this asset class and I see myself working in this asset class for the next 6-10 years. So I was happy to accept this lateral transfer. I was told after my application for the transfer that a promotion case has been made by my old team and submitted. My new team told me today they believe I deserve the promotion but their input was not taken. I knew the risk I took, when I applied for a lateral transfer, but since I can also see my capabilities more clearly now than I could at the time of application, I really feel I should be out there looking for the level that aligns most with my capabilities.

Its not ideal, but it would be more how you carry yourself and discuss your experience at the interview. This is more likely to impact your self confidence vs. other firms, so don't let it get to you

That I have been functioning at a first year associate level for all of this year, and I want to get what’s best for my career. If I stay here, the next cycle is next year in November, so it feels like a really long time to wait when I’m already performing above par.

I was interviewing for McKinsey in the defense and security industry (clearance needed) and thought I did absolutely great on the first business case. The second, however, was with a principal that had very different political views from my own (I’d done some research on her LinkedIn). The business case felt different from any others that I had studied and felt like an attempt to get political without directly doing so. I was quickly rejected following the 2nd interview. Should I try reapplying?

I’m entry level (2020 grad). Used to work at an awesome startup before my current job in SaaS. I’ve been ramping at this co. though so I haven’t even gotten the experience yet I want on my resume. But I talked with the startup co-founder about rejoining. I was thinking part time to start, but he says there’s a high chance of a full time job for me there. Startup is 100% remote. My job at current company is client meetings and deliverables. How difficult would it be to work both at once?
