It's only 3 months I joined an MNC. I'm one of the 20 new members to the team joined recently, so the total team is of 45.

Now, the manager says there's no budget and going to put all 20 on PIP. She says, if during PIP if the performance is good, she'll hold back few.

All the people are working their ass off but I hear PIP is only for termination.

Should I also work hard or start looking for other jobs?
Will I be in bench for other projects or directly terminated with 3 months of pay? 🫠

You have joined recently so you would already be prepared for interviews. Start looking for offers, take joining bonus from the other company to pay the current one off. Don't leave yourself hanging on a ledge for a company putting employees on PIP within 3 months of joining.
There isn't budget for 20 right now, that budget could go down again for the rest of the folks as well or you will also be hearing the same during the appraisal cycles.

Talent acquisition hires on a lag of 60-90 days considering the notice/joining periods. A lot of things change in business in 2-3 months.

The extended notice periods are the source of many of these problems.

Why PIP at first place?? PIP is Performance Improvement Plan and is executed only when a resource is not performing. Then there are stages of PIP. I wonder if there is no budget then resources should not be moved to PIP instead they should allocated/mapped to some other projects where there is requirement.

It's an excuse for them to terminate your employment. It has benefits to the employer. If they manage another project for you then you will be assigned to that project otherwise they will tell you like your performance is not up to the mark and terminate you. So others will get to know that you were the one with low performance and that's why the company terminates your employment and it's your fault as they are given a chance to improve.
The company is trying to save their image as well as money. If they fire you then they need to pay money without working for them. In PIP they will ask for you for some POC which will be used to show to customers.
During PIP suppose they got a project for you you did well in PIP (your performance not matter in PIP).

I recently received an offer from a well known org which is ready to give 100% hike from my current CTC.

I am having 3 YOE and current CTC is not sufficient enough to apply for work permit at onsite. Team lead said to wait for a couple of months then he will talk about early promotion and will try to get the opportunity.
