Hi military reservists here - we do have MOPP gear but it’s very different from these sorts of things
At large scale to support war efforts. Shouldn't we tap into that
Blame the consultants who championed just in time inventory. Back when supply chain had inventory on had on hand at end use as well as at supplier warehouse there was cushion. Now for any product if there is a sudden demand inventory runs out.

There is a national stockpile, but 100 million were pulled out for the swine flu and never replaced
Max brooks did a great interview on NPR about this. We used to have huge stockpiles but it became “too expensive” to maintain after the Cold War. Now it’s up to the public sector to provide. During the California wildfires he went to buy a generator at Home Depot and the National guard had already bought them all.
We also have disaster plans in place but our idiot in chief has been too slow to flip the switch.
