It’s very hard to stay confident with this market. I know we shouldn’t try to time the market, but so much unusual activity has occurred over the past couple of years, and it’s still pushed strong with large YoY growth.

Just curious, how many have began divesting? If so, where are you transferring to? Call me crazy, but I just bought some precious metals for diversification purposes. PS I’m not saying this is the right answer..

Call me crazy but if you’re looking at a 20/30/40/50 year timeline I don’t understand why you’d divest. September is always a down month. No one should really be that surprised by some of the moves over the last few weeks. We will have more unusual years in the future. That doesn’t mean pull out of the market.

I wasn’t referring to this month’s dip, but the overall 2-year performance we’ve seen. But sure, i think that’s sound advice regardless. I’m not disagreeing with that mentality

I’m posting something very similar about alternative investments. Off course, if we all keep blindly investing and investor confidence remains (blindly) high, it wouldn’t necessarily ever crash. But when the skepticism comes (founded or unfounded), the market moves accordingly.

I am not divesting. I am keeping the same portfolio that I always have. I don’t plan to try to time the market and recommend that you don’t either.

I’ve seen a couple posts lately with comments saying that people should not use a Roth 401k. Does the logic below capture the spirit of that concept?
1. Use trad. 401k to reduce taxable income now. Convert to trad. IRA once retired, then convert gradually to Roth IRA (ladder, SEPP, etc.) at lowest marginal tax rate
2. Use Roth IRA (and/or backdoor Roth) to take advantage of tax free growth and ability to withdraw principal early without penalty

Guessing I should still leave the down payment in a HYSA (getting 3% right now)? Sucks to miss out on market returns, but I understand that conventional wisdom is not to invest money you'll need in the short term (within 3ish years). I'm definitely tempted to put a portion of that in VTI though...
