I've always believed that your job security was about producing decent work (doesn't have to be perfect) but more importantly having/ brining in business. Does anyone else agree with me?

Bringing in business is the most important and sometimes that is still not enough to keep you safe.

I don’t necessarily disagree, but I saw a TikTok last night that said the number one predictor of job security and promotion was just if your bosses like you personally.

Work product and revenue are both highly important, but there’s also a personality component that goes into it as well. I’ve seen people let go because none of the partners could stand the twerp.

1. Business 2. Billables/realiZation 3. Work product. Need 2 of 3 to keep the job. Sometimes maybe just one if it’s really strong

I’m more curious about how many disagree!

It depends where you are. If you’re in a super busy department where there’s more work than people to do it, you don’t need to bring in more business to be secure so long as you’re doing a good job servicing the existing clients. But of course bringing in business can only help you.

Best thing you can do.

Is the hiring slowdown over? I contacted a few firms to inquire about lateral opportunities in late June/early July and was asked to check back in the fall due to hiring freezes.
