I've always had a certain level of dread about asking the interviewer questions at the end of the interview. I always feel like mine are really basic or sound like I got them off of Google. So, in your opinion, what are the best/most interesting things you can ask an interviewer to help yourself stand out?

Tell me about the culture at X company? What do you think is the best feature of your product/service? I wouldn't focus on being interesting, so much as asking questions you think will provide useful information to you about the company.

This is SUCH a good question. I never think to ask this but the culture is so so important.

I think questions about the company culture, questions about turnover, and questions about onboarding are most important. Don't feel bad if you're asking "basic" questions, as long as you need/want to know the answer it's a worthwhile question to ask.

It doesn't really matter if you ask basic questions. But asking about the company culture would be great. Just ask anythinh that you want to know.

So I'm interviewing, have had loose salary conversation (talked about band but not specifics), and approaching the official offer stage. It's become clear the role is something I'm very well qualified for, but their pay expectations for the role are much lower than mine. How do I ask if I could be considered for a higher level position in the team in a higher salary band instead?

Applying to both biglaw and boutique firms for after my clerkship. Have already worked in biglaw before. Can anyone speak to the benefit of going to a boutique instead? Do you like it much better? Thanks!

A few years into a career/resume it better (or how important) for the future to choose a client with bigger clients vs local clients?

I want to get to a point where I can have more agency in where I work. I know there are other considerations but would local ones make future searches harder? Particularly when you had a couple (but not a lot) of decently known clients on your resume in the past?

I've always thought bigger clients/companies can help be a base for your resume.

Why is it some companies make you reapply to a role when you’re towards the end of the interview process?

OMG! Why do recruiters go dark on you!? I had a great conversation with a hiring manager who said things like I can’t believe she (recruiter) found you, you are so polished, I want you to meet with the girl on my team -like I had it in the bag. The conversation with the girl on the team went well and told me how excited the hiring manager is and called her right away…. I email the recruiter to ask about next steps and nothing……
