Disclaimer, I don’t have much data, but when I was ECVC at one of the major SV ECVC firms the M&A in-house counsel at Google was from Cleary. I suspect if you’re looking for tech in-house M&A, it probably doesn’t matter that much, but if you’re looking to switch to a more general counsel role, it usually helps to lateral to an SV tech firm - one of the M&A laterals I knew dabbled in ECVC work (might have been part of his lateral deal) and ended up in house at a tier-1 VC fund.

I work at a tech focused SV firm and a ton of our associates in M&A and securities go to tech focused clients (first M&A specialist at a company growing rapidly, position at a Company that just went public as their securities person, etc)
