I’ve been a tax manager for almost a year and am considering changing firms. I mainly do ASC 740 work for financial services clients. I talked to a local firm and my skill set was way different from what they do. Is there anything I should consider before exploring? Honestly am open to both industry and public.

Hey so like - newfound reason for my procrastination since I got on Ritalin - a tendency towards "putting things off so I can enjoy the hyperfocus later". I have to travel to my client every week and the client’s office is attached to a very nice hotel that’s $250 per night. There’s a hotel right across the street that’s $150 per night.. it’s alright, but not as great. Should I be mindful about how much I’m spending or should I blow up the budget until someone says something?

Tax question - I make about $200k and get half of my income from a W-2 and another half from being an independent contractor. Because, I’m subject to pay both FICA and SECA taxes. Do my social security taxes get capped on amounts paid above the ~$140k threshold across both my W-2 and 1099 incomes or am I out of luck and have to pay more than that since only about 100k of my income is FICA and the other 100K is SECA (which is subject to ~12% overall including the ER portion)?
