You feel comfortable leading a client meeting with the CMO or VP Marketing, setting up and discussing a brand strategy and why it’s appropriate, confident you can sell creative work that is imaginative and culturally relevant yet on strategy without featuring the product to a client inclined toward more conservative ideas, articulating creative next steps so you don’t alienate the creative teams or get misperceived as a client mouthpiece? If yes to all, then you might just be ready.
Jesus, I've met GADs who can't do this well.
Yeah you can def get an SAE role
I think you set yourself up for success better when you get three years to 3.5 years of AAE/AE total experience.
How many years of experience do you have total? The question is do you feel ready for an SAE role? I am sure you could get one if you jump ship, but I have found it’s not a race and just because you might get to SAE fast doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll make it to other levels faster after that too. Focus on mastering your current role, and if you feel you’ve done that and they’re not promoting you, by all means look around!
A little over 2 years experience total. Thanks this is helpful!
Agree with ED and FCB1. AE is purely executional and Sup is more strategic. If you have not been doing this type of thinking, running meetings with senior clients (Director and above) without supervision and/or managed someone, I think staying where you are to get that under your belt will help you in the long run.
Yes! Titles mean different things across agencies. Also, you’ll grow into your role as SAE and everything will be fine. I’m all about advocating for yourself. I say yes!
