said I should just respond to the verbal offer. I’m pretty happy with the comp, bonus and relocation, but the benefits docs didn’t include anything about vacation and that may be the only thing I’d try to negotiate. I don’t know if I should ask for a written offer or if that matters? They said once accepted, they’d be sending me a contract so I won’t give my notice to my firm until everything is signed, but does it matter if this is all verbal or is a written offer (and counter offer) standard?

like

It’s pretty standard to verbally negotiate the terms of employment, and HR then sends a formal offer letter or contract with the contract terms. There’s probably nothing nefarious here. Just email HR with the terms of the offer they gave you, and whatever else you want from them in terms of PTO, etc.

like

Oof. I’m sorry but wtf is a verbal offer? No, get that in writing before responding.

like

If they won’t give a written offer, get all the details and send a confirming email, then ask them to reply to confirm. You can tell them you’re concerned about giving notice without something more concrete to rely on.

Agree with this that way you cover yourself!!

like

Agree with the SVP above, both my in-house offers were verbal and I accepted over the phone. Then everything went into place. My first position at a F100 company didn’t have a contract or offer letter sent after. My second position had an offer letter emailed to me after I accepted which stated my salary and linked to the company benefits. Don’t stress!

like

Can't you just ask to discuss the vacation stuff now and once that is resolved, to accept the verbal offer? (One way to do this is to ask for a summary or copy of their vacation policies and then let them know about your specific asks after you review the policy.) My guess is they mainly just want you to accept the verbal offer before they prepare all the written paperwork.

Some info:
- Both roles are for boutique digital consulting firms in Chicago
- Consultant 1 positions requiring 3-5 years experience
- My range: $100k-$120k base
- I have 4 yrs experience, 2 of which in a BA/Product owner role (non b4 accounting firm)

I interviewed for a role with the actual hiring manager more than two weeks ago. After that, the hiring manager gave great feedback, set up a group interview 2 days later. That went great as well and I received great feedback in response to my thank you emails. Since then it’s been crickets. I know part of this time included the 4th, so perhaps no big deal. But I sent a follow up to hiring manager yesterday and no response. Bad sign? Should I follow up with HR rep instead or just wait it out?

I’ve had 7 interviews, met every stakeholder, was initially approached by one of them, who will be my boss. Plus I’ve had great feedback after every interview.

I was laid off from my previous job because of COVID so don’t have a ton of leverage. But that shouldn’t make me powerless. The process just seems like overkill.
