Do you think there are going to be layoffs soon

like

I think if you’re on an existing account, you’re safe. JL did well last 4 years, so they’ll weather this ok. I do think non-account jobs (reception, etc) would be the first to go if there are layoffs, but I’d be surprised if there are any to be quite honest.

What’s the strategy situation like? Do creatives generally respect strategy?

like

Strategy drives work here. Jan and Leo view every brief as an opportunity to change perspectives. Because of that the strategy (I’ve found) is usually sharp, although as everyone knows sometimes the work while inspired by the strategy, goes in another direction. TL;DR yes.

How many places did you work before JL?

Hahaha there it is

I have heard some nightmarish stories regarding the owners. True? And Is the work/life balance really that bad?

like

@CD1: 10-8 is not uncommon.

Also, why did the most recent ECD leave so suddenly?

like

👆🏽 Wow 😮. But I’m not surprised.

Why are you still working there? JL is on my list of dream agencies, most specially because of the founders. Do you recommend pursuing that if you're a young creative?

I’ve loved my time here. The work has been rewarding and the mentorship has pushed my partner and I. If you’re good, you will be able to present work to Jan and Leo, no matter if your a junior or a higher position. In that regard it’s an amazing place to grow and then go elsewhere once you feel like you can’t grow here anymore. Feel free to DM me for more info if you want it. 👍👍👍

I’ve heard that the culture there can be extremely bro-y. Is that still the case?

Do creatives tend to work on a single account? Or do you work across multiple accounts?

Younger teams (jr-mid) tend to drift between accounts and projects which I’ve always preferred. Senior and above are typically hired for their one account with the exception of new pitches. I will say two things though. 1: if you’re really good, and Jan and Leo love you, I’m sure you could arrange a way to work in a way that you want (single account or multiple accounts) 2: It depends on the account. Bigger accounts (VW/adidas/MassMutual) tend to have dedicated creative teams while smaller accounts have teams who are on a variety of accounts. Personally I love being on a variety of accounts as a younger creative because it gets you more experience and I love being on singular accounts as a senior creative because it lets you own the work more. Also hi W+K. 👋🏻👋🏻

How about account?

Most I’ll say is it depends on the person. I’ve worked with incredible account people and I’d say most have been good, some amazing. The good ones I’m happy to run ideas past. For the most part even outside of my personal opinions — on every creative call I’ve ever been on, the account persons opinion is asked for, and they are expected to answer intelligently on creative questions. That seems pretty cool to me.

I’m in consulting because in my undergrad business school culture it was either finance (non corporate) or consulting. Industry was seen as failure. I never gave it second thought. Anyone else?

Zoom tops for women? I’m going to another firm soon and will have to appear on camera more often. I don’t have enough blouses. Any great suggestions of where to shop (bonus for online)? I really don’t feel the need to spend a lot, but want to have some appropriate shirts ready to go.

Should I ask for a raise? My 6-month review is next week and I’m thinking about asking for a raise. I’ve never asked for one before and normally would never think of asking for one until at least 12 months but in the last couple of months my role and responsibilities have enhanced significantly. I don’t have much experience as this is my first job in advertising (comms background) and I don’t want to come off as naive or ignorant! Any advice would be welcomed. Thank you!

I see people asking here all the time for a referral. New to this. Is it much easier to get hired via internal referral? Does referring someone you've never met before not reflect poorly on you if that person isn't qualified? Internal recruiter/hr doesn't ask how you know the person or what you think of him/her?

Everytime I think about work and how I can't even make a strong case for myself for a promotion I get upset. I'm literally pissed that I'm past a year mark and have yet to learn anything new since month 2. I've researched and taught myself as much as I could but many things are "learn on the job" type skills and so nothing. And yes, I've constantly asked throughout this entire year yet nothing has happened only promises that its coming soon or I'll be included in upcoming xyz.
